Topic: Nintendo Switch Lite: Do certain games not allow controller override?

Hello, recently acquired a Nintendo Switch Lite with one game cartridge, Namco Museum Arcade Pac.

I have accessibility issues with my left hand, and was hoping to be able to override games to use right instead of left control stick. However, for at least two games with this collection (Galaga and Pac Man), trying this via Switch Lite system settings does not seem to have an effect. It insists on "listening" to the left stick only.

Is this just a limitation of the games themselves? Or is there a way to force the console to allow right stick by default instead of left?

@DarthContinent Assuming you're referring to the button mapping settings, have you taken note of the 'Please use dual-controller grip if you'd like to make this change' small print below the Left Stick's 'Change to Right Stick' setting?

This presumably means that you may need to use detached joy con in each hand to get the best from this option.

Thanks @gcunit, but to clarify, this is for the Nintendo Switch Lite, which lacks Joy-Cons.

@DarthContinent I have Namco Museum, not the Pac Man multiplayer version you mention. This worked for my Namco Museum. Granted it's not the exact game you have, but maybe it's similar enough to predict that it will work for you?

(Even though you have a Lite, I believe the Button Mapping menus should be identical across all switch models)

Anyway, when you're in Controllers Sensors menu:
-Select Change Button Mapping.
-Select the right joycon, select Change, (the right joycon button map screen opens).
-Now, at the bottom of that screen, select Control Stick Settings,
-Select Change to Left Stick.

That should set your right stick to work like a left stick. And you should be good to go.

@DarthContinent Yes, a Lite lacks joy cons. Which suggests if you're trying to get this working using just your Lite controls, there's your problem. For whatever reason, Nintendo tell us to use the dual-controller grip for the control stick remapping. Which means, if you want it to work in all cases, you probably need to sync some joy cons to your Lite and use them for the remapping.

@DarthContinent @WoomyNNYes I've just dug a Lite out of a drawer and checked. The controller mapping settings are in fact different on a Lite compared to a standard Switch. That bit about using dual-controller grip is only present on a standard Switch; Switch Lite doesn't have it.

So, if you haven't already, you can chuck what I've said previously in this thread in the bin, I guess. Looks like it might just be a game-specific bug.

Yes, walking through the Lite's options seemed fruitless, even explicitly trying to have the games disregard the left stick and use the right seemed to be "ignored" by them, as if that capability is walled off by the cartridge's code and not able to be changed via the console settings.

Thanks @gcunit for checking, regardless!
