Topic: Nintendo switch console Y00 stripped screw

I have replaced the SD card reader and it worked. But as I reassemble the switch I noticed that the Y00 next to the kick stand is stripped and the head is sticking out but won't turn. I thought to take it to Ubreakifix to see if they can remove it. Is there a way I can remove it at home or should I take it to ubreakifix?

Best bet is to contact Nintendo. They can probably set up a repair for you.

@Tay205 Have you confirmed that ubreakifix can handle removing that stripped screw? I would think they could. Forgive me if that sounds dumb. That's how cautious, I'd be, if I was going to have someone work on my console. I like to get a feel for the business before I put my trust in them. I've seen in the auto repair, and autobody repair, some businesses will take a repair that they aren't really trained or experienced with. So, that's why I ask before hand.

@Tasuki well since I was the one who opened it up they will refuse. They only repair it if I didn't temper with it. I also replaced the battery so it voided nintendo

@WoomyNNYes they said by email they need to see it first. I took it to a different repair shop a year ago for a battery replacement and I changed the back plate before the battery replacement and a Philip screw was stripped but they was able to remove it. So I didn't know if anyone here had ideas I can try before taking it to ubreakifix

@Tay205 Ahh "see it first", yeah, that's understandable.

It's possible Tasuki & I are the extent of what you can get here. Most in the forum are here to talk games, but don't touch the tech stuff.

I have only seen large stripped screws/bolts removed, like on a bike.

Obviously, there are youtubes for removing stripped screw for electronics, laptop, etc. It may be worth checking out. Disregard, if you've done that already
EDIT: some of the stuff on youtube is low tech & easy - I was just looking.

@Tay205 Nintendo won't refuse service you would just have to pay for it since you tampered with it but regardless you would have to pay someone to fix it might as well be the manufacturer.

Lesson learned I guess don't temper with stuff next time send it in to Nintendo that way you won't void the warrenty.

Honestly with how much Nintendo charges they aren’t worth sending in for repairs anyway. Also it takes super long for them to do it.

@Tasuki well I am not going to send it to them. I already sent them the same switch for battery replacement and paid $100 for it. But they refused and replaced the switch instead. I sent them the switch for total 10 times in 1 year due to short battery life and Nintendo told me on the last repair that they will no longer service any of my switch. My mother told me this morning she does not want me to send it to them. So ubreakifix here I go

@Tay205 I'm definitely more of a 'fix it myself' person so not sure I'd bother sending it off to anyone for repair, but that's just me - depends on what you're confident doing and what tools you have.

Have you tried the rubber band method to remove it? Sometimes even a different sized screwdriver can be enough to loosen it too. If the head is sticking out can you not turn it with a small pair of pliers or similar? If none of that works I'd just drill the head off the top of the screw and remove the rest with pliers once I'd got the case off.

The last method is a bit savage and could go horribly wrong if you don't know what you're doing, but and the very least try the first 2 - even buying a small pair of pliers would be cheaper than sending it off for repair I guess?

@dmcc0 ya I tried the rubber band and pliers and it didn't work. Don't want to try the drill because I don't have a drill bit to fit it. I guess I take it to the repair shop
