I've recently come to realize something about the Switch's teaser trailer that sparked my intrigue. Everything about the trailer spoke to the core gamer, from the AAA software to the mature design of the hardware. It was an indication that Nintendo isn't pursuing a new audience this time around, and what I mean by that is that the company isn't looking to pursue non gamers. At least not with the Switch. Nintendo has come to set their eyes on a lucrative market that already exists. A market that the company has helped to create. And ironically more than half of that market now belongs to Sony and Microsoft, but that may change.
Strangely in contradiction to quotes from Kimishima and the late great Satoru Iwata, many are speculating that Nintendo, unable to go after the company's competitor's, will be looking for a Wii-like way into the market. And many of those critics have been hoping to be proven wrong by the revelation of a PS4/XB1 esque console from the company. But what if there was a way for Nintendo to breach Sony and Microsoft's user bases, without challenging them head on?
This is what i believe will be the mission of the Switch. Contrary to what many misguided journalists want you to believe, the Switch has the tools necessary to build its own core audience. And if Nintendo can secure the right exclusives and proper software momentum for the console, there's no reason to believe that more than a handful of core gamers won't be looking in the company's direction. And once that happens Nintendo would become a more than competent third player in the core market. Here's to hoping.
I appreciate everybody likes their opinions to be heard and thus there's a temptation to start a new thread, but we have a well established and well used Switch thread already for discussing it, so please use that one.
I ask everybody to try and control their excitement/rage after the Switch Direct and not start a bunch of new threads willy-nilly. Game-specific threads are fine, but everything else can probably stay in the main Switch thread.
