I think my 3 most played games this year will be Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond.
If December were counted, Legends Z-A would be in the top 3. I have 60 hours of gameplay and there's still a lot to do.
@FishyS I read somewhere that these year-end retrospectives only count up to November. And I think Nintendo's is like that too.
Last December, I spent the whole month playing Pokémon Shield (I started playing at the end of November), and it was at the bottom of the list of most played games in the retrospective.
It's definitely going to be Xenoblade X for me. Breath of the Wild will probably be in the top three as well. It's like the Wii U years (the good part, at least) all over again.
Most of my gaming has been on Steam this year. For Switch 2 my highest of sadly Mario Kart World with 225+ hours. Most of it not very fun, would take it all back and just skip that game in hindsight.
Kirby Air Riders will be getting up there though. Currently 55+ hours and not planning on slowing down for a while. Incredible game.
@FishyS Agreed. Even with the Switch 2 launch, 2024 was a better output that reasonated more for me. Kirby DLC and the inclusion of Gamecube games were big highlights for me this year, but obviously that can't compare. Think next year will be where things really kick off in a more stacked way.
@dmcc0 I bought the console at launch specifically for the game and had nothing else to play on it so I really wanted to like it but I honestly just had less and less fun with it the more I played. I've played a lot of Knockout Tour which can rack up the playtime pretty quickly without really achieving much due to how long the races are.
@BenAV Yeah, I get that. My son got it at launch too, and he's fallen off it pretty badly and hasn't played much at all, relatively speaking of course. He ended up going back to Pokémon Scarlet for a bit until Bananza came out and has been getting most of the big new releases as they drop - Galaxy 1&2, Legends Z-A, Age of Imprisonment, Air Riders - so hasn't really gone back to it as he's always had something new to play. I've played a bit of MKW with him and its...OK? It hasn't really wowed me and I don't think it's terrible or anything, but it's decent enough fun, though I've not really done any of the open-world stuff. I did like Knockout Tour though.
