The 2024 year in review is up. I'm new to Switch, so I assume they've done this for a while now, but maybe it's new? Anyway, pretty cool. Like Spotify Wrapped.

I guess we can't post photos. I played 68 games. 82 hours. My most played was King of Season at 6 hours, followed by Katana Zero. I basically don't finish games ever.

This has been discussed pretty well on the main page:

Personally I totaled 583 hours. Picross -LogiartGrimoire- was my most played.

It's been around a few years although they change it a little each year. One change I wish they would make is to give hours played for all the games, not just your top 3.

@Magician that's a lot of games! Out of curiosity did you play lots of demos? that's part of how my numbers get fairly big.

@FishyS

No, my "games played" number is bloated because I test the cartridge for every physical release I purchase. Usually only long enough to go into the options menu to adjust rumble, screen shake, and contrast. If I were to guess, the actual number of games I've played longer than five minutes is probably around thirty or so.

@Magician oh, haha. One year my total was bloated like that because I got a new sd card and opened every single game I owned to re-organize.

While I've played a ton of games on my Switch throughout the year, the vast majority aren't from 2024. There's plenty that I'm eventually going to get to, like Unicorn Overlord and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. However, I've mentioned in other places that I'm basically restarting my backlog with a clean slate. It's gotten a tad confusing which games I've finished, which I only played partway, etc. Even with that fact aside, there's just been a noticeable change in the release output throughout the year. The games look cool, some downright awesome, but its become very clear that next year is the big one. Sure, most of this year I've been playing games not from this year, but that hasn't really bothered me. If I were to rate this year based on solely 2024 releases, I'd say it's been pretty dang good, especially with where we are in the console's lifespan. (We're a far cry from the wasteland that was the Wii U's final year.) Sure, there's no doubt been a downscale on the amount of announcements and the "magnitude" of them, but that's all in due time. I mean, we did finally get our first look at Metroid Prime 4, that's nothing to scoff at! While I'm absolutely thrilled to see what's next and to finally upgrade to better Nintendo hardware, I've been taking this year as a sort of farewell year, to reminisce about all the crazy things that have happened over the past 7+ years. Reflecting on where I was back then, and where I am now. How many crazy things like Smash Ultimate and Metroid Dread have happened, despite how impossible they seemed. I've been fondly remembering the JoyConBoyz movement, and how the Nintendo community effectively saved me at one of the darkest points of my entire life thus far! This year might not have had the biggest bombshells, but its given me time to reflect on just what a crazy journey this has all been, and gets me excited for the future. Heck, the base Switch is still getting DKC Returns, Prime 4, and Xenoblade X! (That's not even mentioning the mysterious playtest that just happened recently and what that means!) Even at the Switch's last breaths, I'd say we're still eating pretty good! Overall, while I wouldn't call 2024 the most hype year, probably not even in my top 3 or 5, but its been a nice breather year that gave me time to appreciate all that's happened, and anticipate the crazy stuff that's to come!
