@Haru17 Now, that sounds a LOT more like what I was expecting!

Maybe this time I won't even fall through the ground at the first town....

@NEStalgia Whoa now! Lets not get carried away! ..it wouldn't feel like a true Bethesda game if you didn't fall through the ground at the first town!

Personally (and I can't explain this strange phenomenon) Skyrim's bugs had little impact on my enjoyment of the game - I got locked out of an entire major questline because a bug prevented me from being able to interact with an NPC to trigger the next mission - but I somehow didn't care (?) ..usually something like that would've given me a serious bout of gamer-rage - but I loved the world that they'd created so much that I was somehow able to forgive it for its (many) faults and just continue playing! (?)

There is actually a community-made mod that fixes almost all of the bugs in the game - but a) it'd require Nintendo to allow mod support and b) Nintendo would have to allow external assets to be used in said mods (the mod isn't available on PS4, so I think it must use external assets here and there to help patch the game up) ..quite why Bethesda don't just approach the community and ask them whether it'd be OK to turn the mod in to an official, multi-platform patch is beyond me - I can only imagine that they feel that the game wouldn't be 'authentically Bethesda' without the odd game-breaking bug here-and-there! :/

LOL, this is undeniably, and most depressingly true.... To be fair, I played Morrowind and Oblivion on PC. it had bugs.....C2Ds.....nothing hugely game breaking. But the Oblivion expansion pack never, ever could start. Any time I entered the portal it crashed. I never got that fixed no matter how much I tried. Skyrim, I had on 360....the collectors edition....the one that came, rather unexpectedly, in the giant 2.5 foot by 2.5 foot by 2.5 foot foam cube and box with the dragon statue inside. I played the game like 5 hours, it was the first full size town (not the mountain village) and I dropped below the floor brush, looking up at the town models in pieces...and could NOT get back up. I reloaded an old save, got back to town, same problem. Loaded an older save, got back to town, same problem. So the entire game state was messed up from the start, apparently. I never bothered restarting. I put it down and never came back I have the LE dragon statue and steel book, I have the Limited, Jeremy Soule autographed soundtrack. And I have played all of 5 hours of the game because of that bug, and the fact that the game felt "off" coming from Oblivion (and coming from PC.)

I'm so psyched about getting it on Switch

It's a little funny, some people complain about Switch getting a 6 year old game. But being a Bethesda game, I tend to consider the 6 year old mark the actual out of beta gold-disc release I played Morrowind years late to the part as well, and the game was that much better for it. Oblivion I had no self control and bought on day one. Thankfully it worked out.

When I played Oblivion on PS3 I had to restart two times, first time because a quest item was not where it was supposed to be (the ring for the mage guild quest), second time because I got outside a house in a sunny day after I became a vampire but I was still unaware of it, the game saved and I was not using any other game save. D:
But I was so enthusiast about the game that I had (almost) no problem starting again two times because of bugs
I never found issues that bad in Skyrim (except one time an enemy in a dungeon threw me outside the game boundaries and I couldn't do anything but I had various safe saves to load) but at the time of the infamous "arrow in the knee" update for me it ruined too much the immersion (I use third person view mainly) so I stopped playing it for a while.

@NEStalgia Ooo - ouch! Yeah...I can kinda see why you'd have given up after that!

Luckily for me, I didn't encounter a major bug (also 360) until I had already gotten half-way around the map - I was so thoroughly engrossed at that point that I just shrugged my shoulders and kept ploughing on! ..I bought the game again (heavily discounted) on PS4 last Christmas and didn't run in to bugs anywhere near as frequently - I don't recall anything too major, even with several layers of active mods installed - so hopefully (**touch wood**) you'll have a much smoother experience on the Switch!

I might buy the game again (for a third time?!) when it comes to Switch...I could just return to the PS4 version I suppose - but I've really enjoyed being able to play Breath of the Wild anywhere, anytime - and I shudder to think how many hours I could pump in to Skyrim with the Switch's flexibility! ..30 minutes here, 2 hours there, 15 minutes over coffee - it'd all add up! I doubt I'd ever get bored! Decisions, decisions..

I barely encountered any bugs while playing the PS3 version, at least none that were major. There was the occasional NPC glitching into the ground or whatever, but that rarely happened to me.

KirbyTheVampire

NEStalgia

@NaviAndMii Between BotW, Skyrim, XC2, Minecraft, and eventually SMTV and Animal Crossing, the Switch could easily consume our every waking moment And I'm hoping that's just the start!

@KirbyTheVampire that's actually hilarious considering you had a better experience on PS3 than Navi...and...mii...ahem...did on X360, while I remember how DISASTROUSLY bad Oblivion was on PS3

NEStalgia

Xyphon22

I think this if funny because I'm playing Oblivion on PS3 right now and I don't recall encountering any glitches or anything. I'm mostly sticking to the main campaign with just the random side quest that happens to be on the way, so maybe that is why. They made sure it was actually okay to beat the game, but couldn't fully test all the optional side since there is so much.

Animals that walks underwater, almost always
Animals who walks where they aren't supposed to (walls, fences), quite often
Horses and cows leaning on a fence like a human wold do, sometimes
Two mammoths spawned in the sky and died because of the damage when they fell, once when I used fast travel

I think its not too wise to bring a six year old game on an underpowered device and expect a hit. Those who wanted to play skyrim already did. Skyrim on the go? I am not sure about that. Probably not gonna buy it even though I never really played it.

On a side note: I dont really like ea or ubisoft - and I dont buy their games. When kingdom battle was announced I immediately dismissed the title since ubi was involved. Even though I hate those rabbids I was pleasantly surprised, so much so that I preordered the game. If it gets good ratings I am definitely gonna buy that xcom clone. This game might actually sell.
What I am trying to say is that third parties should think about what might sell well on the switch and develope exclusive titles instead of just porting older games.

I have skyrim on the xbone and although it was interesting at first, I eventually lost interest. It may be because I had to play it on the xbone. The switch may be different as I can play it on the go as I am doing with all of my games. See how I feel when it is released.

Haru17

What's wrong with Oblivion on PS3? I rebought it on that system a couple years ago (bad idea, that controller is absolute murder for people with human hands) and it played just like I remember Oblivion playing on 360, sans the hard crash on the Umbra quest which I never had the internet connection to update out when I was playing on Xbox.

Besides that particularly memorable instance I've never had many problems with Bethesda games. I think people mistake the weird quirks of their engine for bugs: spoiler, I saw a Lizalfos drown in midair last week. It's video games, floating NPCs are going to happen. And I don't think I've yet played an open world RPG where a quest didn't bug or break — those are usually fixable. It happened to me in Witcher, it happened to me in Inquisition... I don't play many open world games that aren't RPGs. I remember being so frustrated with Inquisition because there was this one collectable in the Hinterlands that was just out of bounds — impossible. I wanted to 100% that game too :/

Anyway, it's still weird that this game doesn't have a Switch release date yet. IIRC the special edition didn't have a date until just a few months before release too. Of course that rumor says 11/28, but who knows. Good December game I guess — I'm sure that'll be an impulse buy for a lot of people that long after Mario.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Octane

@brickofthewild But an exclusive title won't ever be as popular as a multiplat game, that's the problem I think. And I don't need every company's take on Mario just to ensure the game is going to sell...

Now, Elder Scrolls VI? That would be neat whenever that comes out.

Octane

Haru17

I would be really surprised if Elder Scrolls VI came to Switch. If not for the implication that that game is going to push technological barriers, then because by the time it's out it will be next gen and there may well be a new Switch by then.

Fallout or Bethesda the publisher's level-based games seem like better fits.

@brickofthewild
Already released games have the distinct advantage of already being proven good, and have a following who knows it's good. A new game is always a risk (Mass Effect Andromeda comes to mind, Star Fox Zero as well).

There is a reason Minecraft consistently tops the eShop charts, despite being even older than Skyrim. And there's quite the following. I actually have a co-worker who specifically changed his plans to buy a PS4 in favor of buying a Switch at launch in preparation of a hybrid version of Skyrim. And he's part of an online fan group who at first mocked the Switch version of the game, he said, but has now come around and many of them are buying Switches for the game also.

It's just one of those games that never truly dies (as we see, here in 2017 and going into 2018, with the first ever handheld version of The Elder Scrolls V on Switch and first ever VR version on PSVR). But I wish Nintendo fans would treat this game with the same respect they treat classic Nintendo games. If Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess came to Switch, people would eat it up. And this game is every bit as worthy as those are.

Yes there have always been old games on newer consoles, this time this is the first time for a game of this genre on a Nintendo console and the first time that this particular game (or any other game in this series) will be in portable format and believe me it can really be useful to play it on the go, for example one could go around venturing and taking some higher risks against harder enemies in bigger dungeons when he is at home and can play in the most comfortable way, and use the playtime in portable mode to improve his equipment, trading things, doing some enchanting, alchemy and smithing stuff or things like that. I think that this game will show a completely new way to be played on the Switch, you will be able to change your activities in game depending on the real life situation in which you are at a given time, you can do a task that will take longer and could be hard to overcome when you have more time and are able to concentrate more on the game but you will still be able to play in other occasions doing more trivial things that however will show their benefits the next time you will face a harder challenge. Switch will be the perfect home for this game in my opinion.
Of course nobody would want ONLY old games, but along with new games good ones are more than welcome too.

Didn't expect that! Kudos then for bringing skyrim to the switch.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying skyrim was a bad game. Who knows maybe I will buy it some day. The price would need to drop though. Time is limited. The older I get the bigger the backlog.

Grumblevolcano

@LuckyLand That's not exactly true even if just looking at the Switch, Breath of the Wild beat it by about 8 months.

The crucial thing is that both the Switch and PSVR versions of the game promise to really make the most of the unique hardware of those two devices; the Switch version will take advantage of the portability of the console, the ease of which you can suspend/resume game states & the increased immersion that the Joy-Con's motion controls will provide - and the PSVR version will allow players to immerse themselves in the world like never before...these aren't just lazy ports, they should both provide an enhanced experience and encourage different ways of playing/approaching this masterpiece of modern gaming

If my longest ever Skyrim save had a 'Hero's Path' mode, I'm sure that (even after pumping at least a couple of hundred hours in to the game) I'd find that there's still so much that I hadn't explored - the Switch will allow me to approach the game in a whole new way...I could still have the lengthy gaming sessions I enjoy, but interspersed with a number of micro-sessions (eg. clearing a bandit camp at breakfast, exploring a cave over coffee) - being able to chip away at this game in the same way that I was able to approach playing Breath of the Wild would just be ideal and is a really tantalising prospect!

I'm also a huge fan of 'motion controls done right' - I really enjoyed how Skyward Sword took full advantage of the enhanced control offered by the Wii Motion Plus accessory - so the prospect of being able to play an epic adventure like Skyrim, with Skyward Sword-esque motion controls, in a first-person perspective (which I find to be more immersive) really, really appeals to me

It's a similar story with the PSVR version - I remember having a discussion with my brother about the potential of VR a couple of years ago where we both used Skyrim as the definitive example of a world that we'd love to experience in virtual reality...sure, it's 'the same old game', but it's a whole new way of being able to experience it - which I'm all for!

Lazy ports of mediocre games are one thing - but the right port, of the right game, on the right platform can be really exciting - and I'd put these two new versions of Skyrim in that bracket

@Grumblevolcano I don't feel like Breath of the wild and Skyrim can be considered of the same genre. In my opinion Breath of the wild is much more similar to Assassin's Creed or GTA games. Breath of the wild beat absolutely nothing compared to Skyrim in my opinion and does not even play in the same field (but if it did the winner would be Skyrim, not Breath of the wild, not even being in the stores months earlier could help)
