I think the only first-party games i'm confident Nintendo has up its sleeve for this year are Yoshi and Fire Emblem. A 2019 release date for Animal Crossing is mainly just speculation, isn't it? The new Pokémon is supposed to arrive before 2019 is out, but it wouldn't surprise me if it slipped back to 2020 - it's a critical release for Nintendo and one they absolutely have to get right. I suspect we'll get some remasters to fill out the release schedule, but that's just guesswork.
TBH, if we get Dragon Quest XI and Persona 5 R, then 2019 is a hit for me regardless of what first-party stuff we get. This should be the Switch's best year yet for third-party releases.
I really enjoyed 2018 personally. The Indies helped a lot. I mean we kicked off the year with Celeste. Then we also got Hollow Knight and Dead Cells. I also loved Octopath Traveler and YS VIII, amongst others.
@krull I'm confident fire emblem will also release this year and although I would also be happy if dragon quest XI and persona 5 R release on switch this year they are not for everyone.
@1UP_Mario
First one: NO... (give me xenoblade chronicles X, wonderful 101 or tokyo mirage sessions instead)
Second one: Yes but not this year
Third one: I hope it happens
I think Fire Emblem's release in the investors meeting will be the key. If that still says Spring 2019 then sure maybe there'll be a normal Direct within a few weeks but if it says 2019 then I think they may have a Smash Direct instead. One like the E3 2015 Smash Direct where you got info on Lucas, Roy, Ryu + Suzaku Castle, DLC/free stages, Mii Fighter costumes, amiibo and modes.
@Grumblevolcano I agree that the release date of fire emblem is very imported. But a smash direct again... . They could have saved the announcements of january and done a mini direct. They started developping the dlc characters after smash was released and if pirana plant is out now I don't know if joker is playable yet, and if he isn't It would be weird to announce 2 other characters that they haven't started development on.
@andrew20 I don't know if it is but If it was I don't think they wouldn't have released monster hunter XX on the switch in the first place. If it happens I will take it but I doubt it...
@troy258 While Piranha Plant is available for code owners, there's still the question of when it'll come to the eshop (Switch news section says around February 2019). When Mewtwo came to Smash 4, the code came on April 15th 2015 meanwhile it came to the eshop on April 28th 2015 alongside other content (Mii Fighter outfits).
@troy258 Nah, XX doesn't disconfirm or confirm World in any way. It was a cheap way to try and avoid pissing off Nintendo fans as much about World, since they didn't think they'd see an ROI if they brought it over. Now that things have changed with how well games are selling, that may or may not have changed. After all, porting is always possible, the question is at what cost, and what would need to be cut.
I think there WAS a direct schedualed for today. They did drop a lot of yoshi info on twitter and misc. trailers on their main youtube channel. They also likely were going to put in the Metroid Prime 4 apology in there as well. Maybe even a surprise launch of 2.0 and Pirahna Plant for SSB ultimate. Darksiders: Warmastered also would have likely been a surprise as well, because that tweet might have been sceadualed.
Nice >:]
I do stupid stuff on youtube.com/mysticbros, so check it out if your bored or whatever.
Or don't, it's your time after all.
@Mysticgengar I don't think so. The darksiders announcement has been deleted and was dropped by Thq nordic on their website. The metroid prime 4 apology doesn't belong in a direct. Because the direct needs to excite customers for upcoming games and not dissapoint. Pirana plant could have been part of a direct but nintendo is focusing on their investors meeting at this point so I don't think a direct was ever planned today.
@DannyBoi I mean, nothing to show other than the Smash having the best launch month sales of any exclusive ever. I'd wager their sales numbers are looking pretty nice right now. On top of that, they have FE:TH, Deus ex Machina, Luigi's Mansion 3, Animal Crossing, and most importantly that mobile Mario Kart game to lean on, release dates or not. They'll be fine.
