I can't even imagine what a deluxe version of Sword would look like. 128x128 resolution textures on trees? Actually seeing berry trees before you cycle into them?

I reckon they would just mix up the roster of Pokes and add a single new legendary.

I know you're all joking, but don't jinx it

It’s obvious that the Switch upgrade will be a streaming service using the amazingly reliable Nintendo servers we all know and love, and they’ll be entirely based in a single bedroom apartment in Japan.

Also, with a little bit of work, you can hack it and import your own GBA ROMs.
There are so many sensible things Nintendo could do that they choose not to do.

Yep, the 3DS runs GBA games natively, but they just didn't bother to release any. Likewise the Wii U runs Gamecube games natively, but they just didn't bother to release any.

Nintendo are really good at sucking on these issues.

You should never be in a situation where you need to illegally mod a console to unleash its full potential.

@Dezzy They kinda did with the GameCube Zelda games on Wii U. But that makes me realise they put even less effort into those than I thought

@damien33ad they’d probably port over Colour Splash first.

@Octane

Those were both ports, not actual gamecube games. I mean the Wii U actually runs gamecube games directly. The modders figured this out pretty early on, and yet Nintendo did absolutely nothing with it. They could've easily had half the Gamecube library available for digital on the eshop.

@Dezzy I agree with the latter.

I don't think the games were ports though. If they ran natively, there's nothing to port. I mean, they were remastered; they increased resolution, textures, etc. But was there really any porting necessary?

@Octane

Well the term "port" usually just means you transfer the original game code into a new engine that runs on the new platform.
So remasters are mostly ports as well, they're just visually improved ports.

The term "native" is confusing on the Wii U, because it had the inbuilt Wii for backcompatibility. The gamecube games run natively on the virtual Wii, but not on the base Wii U.

@Dezzy I believe the virtual Wii was just a lazy solution to work around the different controller inputs. So instead of coming up with a solution to control the Wii U dashboard with the Wiimotes, they just chuck you into an actual Wii menu. Either way, all three systems were just beefed up versions of the last one. I think the GameCube code can run natively on a Wii U, but maybe I'm wrong.

If we really are getting a Direct this Friday, we might get an official announcement of it today. Fingers crossed.

@Rexenoboy they’re normally one day notice notice but if it’s Friday Japan time and Thursday western time then maybe today.

If it is tomorrow, would it be before Gamescon .... ? Since that seems to be the XBox event & presumably some other stuff! Guess we'll find out soon enough in that case

@jump
A two days notice happened before. But you're right, the announcement could be tomorrow as well. Or they could not announce beforehand at all and shadowdrop it on us. You never know with Nintendo.

@Rexenoboy i hope thats not the case cause if they shadow drop it it will be a mini and they don't announce big new first party games there (usually)

if Nintendo indeed do a general Nintendo Direct this Friday, they need to anounce today or tomorrow the general Nintendo Direct, unless Nintendo is going to do a general Nintendo Direct after the brefing sessions they have in septembre 16 that is more likely to happen, then a general Nintendo Direct on a Friday.

i like HD Rumble.

As others have mentioned before, it's more likely a Nintendo Direct happens before the business meeting. It avoids having to answer questions regarding upcoming games.

Announcement at 2 or 3pm UK time for airing the day after at 10 or 11pm UK time is the standard setup for general Directs. In 2019, the February and September general Directs were announced at 2 or 3pm UK time on Wednesday for airing 10 or 11pm UK time on Thursday (the 2 times like 2 or 3pm is a result of time zone changes, UK time in February is GMT meanwhile UK time in September is BST (GMT+1)).

Same thing happened for the March and September Directs in 2018 except it was announcement on Tuesday for airing on Wednesday.

So it's safe to assume if there's no announcement today by 3pm UK time, there's no general Direct and the Friday Direct is either a Mini, Partner Showcase or nothing.

I think people are reading way too much into this management meeting. These types of things are common and are for the internal company, it’s not some kind of media PR event.
