@Dezzy I believe the virtual Wii was just a lazy solution to work around the different controller inputs. So instead of coming up with a solution to control the Wii U dashboard with the Wiimotes, they just chuck you into an actual Wii menu. Either way, all three systems were just beefed up versions of the last one. I think the GameCube code can run natively on a Wii U, but maybe I'm wrong.
In some cases of backwards compatibility, that might be correct. I don't think it is with these consoles though. The Wii and Wii U, whilst using the same family of CPUs, are massively different on the software side from what I understand. The Wii doesn't even have a proper operating system (as old consoles mostly didn't), so all of the low level hardware related stuff is actually handled by each individual wii game. That's why they couldn't patch games back then. It's also why the Wii U has an SD card slot that isn't even compatible with the Wii U itself. It's only accessible from within the Wii mode. That's because its interface is loaded within every Wii game, so they essentially were forced to include it just to get backwards compatibility working.
Further proof of this is with the digital Wii games you can buy on the Wii U eshop. They install an icon onto the Wii U menu like a Wii U game, but when you load them they actually boot into the virtual Wii first, and show you the opening logo and disclaimer from the Wii system itself. They don't load directly into the game. I think all of that points to the fact that they actually needed to fully simulate the Wii system just to get the games working at all.
@jump@mariomaster96 I never believe leakers. Until Nintendo officially announce anything, I never believe a word people say. I just think it’s interesting that Nintendo are likely deliberately sending out false details. And I am all for them doing it.

@FragRed Imagine the hell that will break loose if the 3D Mario remasters end up being a similar situation. So many people seem to accept rumours as fact if the leaker appears to be reputable but realistically it doesn't matter how many times they've been right in the past, it doesn't mean their information is always going to be right going forward. Rumours are nothing more than rumours until there's an official announcement, regardless of how likely they appear to be.
@GrailUK That sad part is, if there was any presentation on Friday, I can totally believe Nintendo would do that. I want a Direct to happen, but I have pretty much lost all faith in Nintendo this year. The silence has been deafening, Covid or no Covid.
Why should i wasting my time to believe in rumour ?
I didn't take it seriously.
If it happens, i will be happy.
But if it doesn't, at least i will not felt very disappointed as i have realized it was a rumour.
Btw, i heard a rumour...
Get used to everyone tweeting about Friday for the next couple of days. Everyone seems to think they know something and are all "teasing" things. In other words, they all want to be seen and by not being specific about anything they "tease", it means they can get away with being wrong when nothing happens, or its only a partner showcase.

@BenAV I've been saying that Mario Remasters were leaker bait for the entire year, there was too much coverage of it. Every time a rumor comes from that many sources, that fast, it turns out to be that. Same thing with Pokemon Stars, same thing with Star Fox Racing, same thing with Metroid Prime Trilogy. I can't recall the last time a first-party game was leaked by more than two people more than a week or so before reveal.
@link3710 How often do first party Nintendo games get leaked? I don’t think it’s that often. Nintendo are very good at keeping things close to their chest, unlike most other developers.
