There is 1 big advantage to the info drought, Nintendo's finally giving Xenoblade the attention it deserves. If there were more announcements, Nintendo would've likely stopped promoting XCDE about 3 months ago.
@Grumblevolcano yeah that's really nice, I think they even advertise XC DE more than Paper Mario which is interessting considering Paper Mario released after XC DE and would also appeal to more people than a JRPG
If that new console rumour is true, I'm guessing they'll announce it in this Direct. I've always thought it made sense to release a PRO version to correspond with the PS5/XSX launch, even if it's mostly just a symbollic "we're still competitive with hardware (even though we're mostly not)" kind of gesture.
Although I thought they'd do it for christmas, so they could act as if they're competing for the attention of potential hardware buyers.
I'd almost definitely sell my current Switch and upgrade to a Pro version if it meant being able to play all of their major games in 1080p.
@Dezzy it's 2020. 720p docked shouldn't even be a thing.
Yes, thank you Justin Trudeau. But this isn't a reason. As graphics improve over time, the pressure to keep resolution and framerate low, continually resets itself. So the year is meaningless. All that matters is what graphical level they're trying to render, on what hardware.
@Dezzy once 4k tv's became the standard at stores then consoles should have bare minimum quality of 1080p. I had to give up playing my switch on tv and move to a computer monitor but even monitors are now moving quickly to 4k.
I use it for when I'm on the exercise bike, so only tend to play fast-paced games in that situation. Trying to play a JRPG whilst cycling quickly is basically impossible. Your brain starts refusing to do 2 things that have such a different pace to them.
Unless the rumored Switch Pro has a new analog mechanism to replace the joy-con and reduce the likelihood for joy-con drift, I view it as a pointless product to be excited about. A slight bump in power might make a select few games look or run better. But developers will still target the Switch Lite as a baseline for development.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

I was able to correct my Joycon issue with a qtip and alcohol...
@damien33ad I can't imagine that'd happen, but it'd be great. Still baffles me that they made GBA games playable on a home console, but not on a portable console that's more than powerful enough to run them.
@rockodoodle Ditto. I corrected a friend's joycon drift with the same method.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
I think Game Boy and then GBA will probably be added to the service before N64. Much as I hate portbegging and people who do it, more people should get the chance to play the Super Mario Bros. 3 World e levels.

If it was powerful enough to make everything in handheld run at 720p and everything in docked run at 1080p, that'd be worth it in my opinion.
I was thinking GBA this year but SNES progress has been so slow (compared to NES where the vast majority of notable games were obtained in 7 months), I have a feeling we could get another year of only NES and SNES. So like perhaps the big reason to renew is SNES games that should've appeared months ago like the rest of the DKC trilogy, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, etc.
I hope it's true this time. Then they can make Deluxe versions of Pokemon Sword and Shield, Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Smash Ultimate, 3D World, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing New Horizons, and Skyward Sword and sell them for $90 a piece instead of a mere $80.

I'm looking forward to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Deluxe. Hopefully more tracks this time and not just three item slots.
