@dionysos283 Yeah it wasn't great, I think Nintendo's Marketing department are really dropping the ball at the moment. Unless Nintendo really don't have anything to show, which would be strange. They've got so many development teams, and with the 3ds no longer relevant. They must all be working on Switch games surely. Unless their next gen console is closer than we expect.
@Slowdive Uh, several people posted links here to people claiming that Mario Collection was guaranteed, I dunno, I don't follow these conmen.
Anyways, I'm... actually satisfied. All I wanted was Bayo 3 or SMT V to finally get a real trailer, and I got my wish. But no NMH 3 and BD 2 is... beyond bizarre. Though, that confirms for sure we're getting more directs this year, since they still are coming this year supposedly. With III and V coming and I on NSO, there's a lot of SMT (finally). I'm hoping that means II is coming to NSO eventually too. If... would also be nice, but from what I've heard that one might have too much dialogue for me to try and get through. Plus, it's basically Persona 0 apparently. But yeah, that'd mean all the major SMTs I hadn't played would be available.
I think this fits well in line with what Grubb (the guy who has accurately been leaking information about multiple different things in the game industry) has been saying. In that Nintendo has been struggling to handle the pandemic because of how they run their company in a very traditional manner.
So the shift to having to work from home and the uncertainty/difficulty of organizing meetings and communication between companies has made it very difficult to arrange a reliable schedule for a direct. Which is why he predicted we wouldn’t see a normal one until September at the earliest. They were probably just hit harder by the shift and their tendency to hold their cards close to their chest (although not always) probably is just leading them to being very cautious
It wasn't too exciting as expected but the announcements we got were actually somewhat surprising. Didn't see Cadence of Hyrule DLC coming and interesting that they focused on the SMT games despite them coming out next year. The real exciting announcement for me though was Atelier Ryza 2 in the Japanese video.
@BenAV Why the heck was that not in the western version shakes head
Whatever that first game was looks interesting too. We already knew about Fairy Tail, Captain Tsubasa, and Jump Force so I see why that was cut. Interesting that SMT V was shown before III in their version though? Guess it shows that they think SMT III is a bigger deal in the east than the west.
@dionysos283
Ninjala was the only game that stole my attention from Mini Direct Japan.
Momotaro Densha was quite eye catching but not really hyped by the gameplay.
The other games were Blah. (0 / 10)
@link3710 Plus SMT III comes out in October there (which explains my earlier query of why they focused on games for 2021) so that probably makes it a bit more of an exciting announcement.
@BenAV Oh I missed that, that explains a lot about why it was announced now. That's a pretty notable fall title then, even if it is a remaster, considering it's the only mainline SMT title to not have a Nintendo release prior to this.
That was really disappointing though it was nice seeing that SMTV isn't vaporware. Hopefully the Xbox event on Thursday is really good, so far the only event that hasn't been disappointing this year was the PS5 reveal back in June.
As only the 1st in a series of 'partner' minis, it was pretty good .... SMT is big enough news, surely? Admittedly, I was around when V was 1st promised for the NX, since it was before it even came out
See what optimism can get you? DON’T BE A PESSIMIST!!!!
To be honest, none of this sticks out to me. I’m excited to see where they go with these (cough FUSER info) but the big feeling of Directs is new game announcements which... doesn’t seem like will happen very often.
Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.
Did we previously have any release info for Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin? Nintendo's US site now has it listed for Nov. 10, but I'm not sure if it was always like that.
@BruceCM I mean, it is a major new exclusive confirmed basically, considering it's been practically vaporware for the longest time. SMT III finally hitting Nintendo consoles is a bigger deal in Japan I suspect, since they'll have all 5 (well, 6 technically, or 8 is Strange Journey and If... are considered mainline?) games playable finally. 1&2 missing in the west takes away some of that impact.
Still, as one of the long-running coveted trio of announcements with Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3, I'm just glad we finally have a date. Of course, it feels like BotW2 might be taking its place but...
