Alternatively, the Pokemon Presents could announce something to pad out the schedule - maybe a new Mystery Dungeon, given how last year had people uncover metadata on the Pokemon website for a 2023 Spike Chunsoft copyright?
I have it on good authority, all the experts and all the leakers agree, Nintendo Direct even did an article on it, that the 2024 direct will happen at the start of January.
I can get behind Nate’s timeline, though I still see a general direct happening to keep tradition and stay in line with their recent assurance that og switch is still the main focus. That said, I do think it will be a shorter and lighter one that will only feature something like prime 2 and/or those Zelda ports as it’s new first party announcements.
@PrimeMaxDiscord@Bolt_Strike A March reveal has always been what I expected of it we’re coming this year. Perfect timing to excite shareholders right before end of year financials. Also gives about 6 months to market the console and games, the same with third party publishers. Also gives the consumers time to start looking to save up for the console, accessories and games. Times are tough and so a lot of people are going to need to consider how best to save up.

I can actually see them just holding a Mini Direct the more I think about it.
Not necessarily a partner showcase but I think a presentation that gives release dates for TTYD and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, maybe a Metroid Prime 2 remaster and NSO update might not necessarily warrant a big full showcase, though of course that's only the first party stuff.
This is coming from the angle that we're probably going to see Switch 2 sooner rather than later (ie: next month/April with a release near the end of the year) so unless Nintendo wants to go pretty much another year with Switch then a Mini-update might be most suitable
@Clammy You're thinking of when it released, March 3rd 2017, but it was first mentioned on 17th March 2015 during the DeNA partnership announcement (as the NX) so either way, it's all in the same ball park
Space and Games are similar. Space is endless and new stuff is out there waiting to be discovered. Games are always being made but the creativity is different from one game to another and so many more ideas still haven't been imagined or created yet. (That came out better than expected lol)
@Nintoz I pretty much agree with that. I could see TTYD and LM2HD release dates, a hopeful shadow drop of Prime 2 and 3 (like Pikmin), and a reveal of the leaked FE4 remake and some NSO updates. That's a good enough final roster.

@Nintoz I've gotten pretty much everything I could really ask for over the last couple Directs myself (Ghost Trick and Apollo Justice ports/remasters, Paper Mario TTYD on Switch, Game Boy/Advance on NSO, etc.) so all I'd really like to see is one or two new remasters, a big new NSO roadmap and maybe a new entry in a long dormant series like Kid Icarus or Punch Out. I've been riding a very large high over the past year or so in regards to Directs so I'd genuinely be fine with whatever they show honestly XD

Seems reasonable to me. Also wasn't it Nate who was stirring up trouble at one point suggesting that backwards compatibility wasn't likely? Interesting that he seems to have done a 180 on that opinion here

Nintendo's promoting Mario vs. DK too much to just go "here's a 1st party port shadow drop" the day before it launches so I feel if there had to be a Direct next week, Partner Showcase would make the most sense. NSO update could be Microsoft focused (e.g. DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo-Tooie, Perfect Dark), Unicorn Overlord gets a big spotlight without any Fire Emblem distractions in the way, maybe Silksong reappears as the closer, etc.
Side Order gets new gameplay after the "Best day of the weekend" Splatfest alongside Fresh Season announcement, Pokemon Presents reveals Gen 5 remakes for Late 2024 and maybe an Explorers of Sky remake for earlier on in the year meanwhile TTYD + LM2 release dates get announced at the Switch 2 reveal (if the reveal is in March) alongside a bunch of other current Switch games.
@Grumblevolcano Couldn't they also be getting that level of pre-release promotion out of the way in preparation for a shadowdrop announcement though? They did a similar thing with Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe and Metroid Prime Remastered last year if I'm not mistaken 🤔
Also, even as a massive Pokemon fan, I really hope they don't do Gen 5 remakes this year and instead use 2024 as a grace period between mainline releases in order to both give them the time they need to properly cook and potentially resurrect some older spinoffs that haven't gotten a new entry in a while (cough cough Mystery Dungeon cough cough Conquest cough cough).
@Fizza Last year's Direct (and Metroid Prime Remastered) was on February 8th meanwhile Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe released February 24th. That's a larger gap than if there was a Direct (and shadow drop) on February 15th with Mario vs. DK releasing on February 16th.
I finds this really fun that many suddenly believes in Nate now so fast when he talks about Switch 2... Before that he was pretty unpopular. This just shows how incredibly starved many here are for Switch 2 so they believes in practically everything now.
Nah! Never gonna happen that Nintendo will reveal a new console already in march, especially considering of how well Switch sold during the holidays of 2023. It would be silly to angering those customers who recently bought Switch.
Switch still sells too well to already revealing Switch 2 yet, since in just the 8 latest months Switch managed to sell more than what Wii U did in 5 years! And that on Switch's 7th year, and without single one price cut in 7 years...
Switch is outpacing PS2 by around 30m in same timeline now... The same PS2 who had numerous price cuts during its 7 first years.
"Switch 2" , which actually will be called something very different then, they don't want to repeat the same fatal mistake as Wii U. Nintendo is not Sony. It will be revealed first in 2025 during the summer as the earliest.
@Keman I mean... I don't think people here necessarily believe in Nate, they just think the timeline is at least plausible.
Personally I interpreted the statements they made at the recent financial meeting as saying they definitely wouldn't announce new hardware until around or after the next meeting, so mid-late Spring or summer.
As for a reveal not until summer 2025? That would be an excellent way for Nintendo to crash it's own stock prices.
@Keman
I don't believe people, I support reasonable arguments. What he's saying now seems reasonable to me so support his argument in this case. It's not a particularly bold prediction but in some ways the fact that it isn't is part of why it is reasonable
On the other hand people such as yourself who constantly push the "Switch has sold X million units therefore no Switch 2 until next year" bit? It's just not a good argument. It's thin. Total lifetime Switch sales won't go backwards and there will always be someone who just brought a Switch just before the announcement. But even so, there will be a new console eventually and when that inevitably happens you will be retrospectively wrong
I'm sure someone could dig up some old post of mine where I said 2024 was too late and proove me wrong but.... I'm fairly sure my view for a line while has been 2023/2024....
