Ah good to know. Loving the game so far. Lots of variety in the characters (I don’t even use Link unless forced) and the story is fun. Feels very Zelda/Champions centric.

To the surprise of no one, Lady Urbosa is my main. She and Impa rock crowd control.

Edit: Hylia’s grace I jut got to the twist (past chapter 5) and this may be my new favorite Zelda game. I likely spend way too much time focused on a series that has a very limited focus on narrative but AOC both complements and flips BOTW so well. It’s obvious when the story went the way it would have and I love how the cutscenes were framed for that but then they went and OOT’ed the whole thing and it is glorious. I mean you straight up cheat in OoT to win both with time travel and being placed back in the timeline with enough time to warn everyone and this is no different and still so far feels just as satisfying. And the characters are wonderfully emotionally present without having to reveal their life’s histories.

Also the Yiga are idiots.

Question: where are the supposed framerate drops that had people up in arms? I’m nearly 40 hours in and I am not having any issues….

Yeah, I didn't see it. Granted, maybe they fixed it the past year but uh...its fine. My cursed, awful tv that refuses to work means I've mostly played in handheld mode, and its still been fine.

Which really, really bugs me since my fear about how this would run in handheld mode is one of the reasons I took so long to start playing it. Thanks internet!

I think people are just sensitive to different things. I tried out the demo as the game was put on sale and I thought the frame rate dips were bad enough to avoid purchasing it. When using some of the bigger attacks the game seemed to practically chug into single frames and since you’re using those attacks over and over again, I found it a pretty nauseating experience. However, I do understand the area used for the demo is meant to have some of the worst performance in the game and some areas are meant to be better but it wasn’t worth the risk to me. Especially as other musou games I have tried on Switch have also run in low, choppy, FPS.

@Pizzamorg Well wile in the demo it didn't bother me at all actually for me, I got the game, and, I haven't really had a dip in the frame rate like the demo, Hell even the sections that really should have big dips in then, don't, Granted i'm playing handheld, But I feel like the demo was a waaay more unfinished version.

Pretty Sure Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition runs at 60fps. After hundreds of hours on that game AOC was a little jarring to start with but it has been shorn up somewhat. @Pizzamorg

Wait, there is a premium version of AOC that runs in a better FPS?

@Eel I haven't played co-op in the full game yet, but in the demo, again, I was fine with it, and so was the person I was playing with, IDK, maybe I have low FPS standard's, I know for FPS games tho, I Have high FPS standards.

@Pizzamorg
It's the port of the original Hyrule Warriors from Wii U. It runs like a stabbed rat and has an embarrassing amount of content. With characters and levels from pretty much every Zelda game, it's a stricter, more traditional 'Dynasty Warriors' style than AOC. You can play as Tingle and Agatha so that makes it an automatic win for me!

The fact that HW Definitive Edition is poorly optimized for handheld play completely ruins it for me. It’s a shame because it’s one of my favorite games on the 3DS.

@Snatcher no, but it apparently is always trying to display a full 1080 resolution, even on handheld, which consumes more battery and affects performance. So it’s not like, bad, but it could’ve been better.

It also has a few issues that happen when you play for too long. Things start glitching. Not sure if that was ever fixed.

I’m almost sure it doesn’t actually run at 60fps in docked mode either.

It mostly just left a bad taste seeing how careless they were with that port. It’s like, well, like they didn’t care.

At least about the handheld aspect…

Can confirm. The glitch as time passes was never fixed. It is interesting seeing the game fall apart as time goes on in play. I could be wrong, but based on my experience, time in sleep mode also counts towards the game becoming more unstable. At least the fix is easy enough.

Regarding the frame rate, I think Digital Foundry did a video which showed that it can hit 60fps, but it is very rare when it does; it normally fluctuates between 40-60.

I still like the Switch version, but yeah, agreed that it could of been done better. I was hoping for a patch shortly after release, but as far as I know, no patch ever came for the game.

Signature, huh? Where do I sign?
