i just purchased one of the new v2 Switch consoles to replace my launch model. My games are all stored on a 400GB SD card. The problem I’m having is getting the card to work on my new console with the existing SD card. I copied the Nintendo folder to my PC then formatted the card as FAT32. Then I copied the data back to the card and placed it in the new console. It keeps telling me the card is linked to my original console though. What are the proper steps to do this without having to spend $100 on another SD card?
@mario-64 : You're going to have to redownload all of your games or transfer them wirelessly (though this would require a fresh 400GB microSD in addition to the one you have now).
Back up your saved photos/videos to your PC and format your microSD card. Use that with your new Switch. You will need to wirelessly transfer your dave data between consoles as all of your save data is stored in the internal memory, not the microSD card.
It will be tedious, I'm sure, but there's no other way around it, I'm afraid.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
Thank you Silly_G. I’ll just return the new Switch. Screw Nintendo and their archaic locking SD cards to the console. It literally disincentives customers from purchasing new hardware.and just cost them $300
If one actually does their homework before making disparaging remarks would go along way to enlighten one's mindset. You should've actually contact Nintendo support on system migration to help,

1. You need to do the NIN mirgration instructions as listed on their site
2. I have found by chance could work is just insert the card into the v2 and it formats but the data was still there. This is something I did by chance and it worked for me but always backup your previous data onto a computer first before doing this.
3. Get Temper Glass HD
You message that it gave you it was formatted to another is the same thing I got but I took the risk and inserted and formatted the card but the data was still there. But backup the data before trying this to see if it only formatted but saved the data.
