Hello people, hope you are all well.

I really want to buy a new game and I am not sure what to choose. I don't buy a lot of indie games but two games really stand out to me - Hollow Knight and Steamworld Dig 2.

I am not a huge fan of metroidvania games but i am looking for something a bit different with rpg elements.I did play Muramasa the demon blade on the Wii which is really liked.

What do you think people? They are both quite cheap also.

If you're not a metroidvania fan id steer clear of hollow knight. What type of games do you find yourself typically buying and what do you currently own on switch?

For some reason i really want to play it.

I own Zelda, Smash bros, had Mario rabbids, Pokemon Lets go Pikachu, Octopath Traveller, Bayonetta 1 and 2.

I dont dislike Metroidvania i just domt play them but the concept and art style of both games i mentioned looks really good.

I love long games, rpgs, breath of the wild. Good stories, lots to do, good action, levelling up etc like Metroid and Final Fantasy.

Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana.

It's a 50-60 hour action/rpg with great combat and a fairly large world to explore.

SteamWorld Dig 2 and Hollow Knight are both fantastic metroidvanias, and are two of the best games on Switch. Neither has any levelling up, though your characters do grow more powerful as you find upgrades during the course of the games.

I love both, but I'd say Hollow Knight is the superior game. It's a fabulous 2D metroidvania, with brilliant and very challenging action and exploration - there really aren't many (or possibly any) better. It's also very long - getting to the final ending can easily take 60 hours. And you may beat your head against the wall before you finally get the better of some bosses.

However, if you're not 100% sure about metroidvanias, SteamWorld Dig 2 is the friendlier experience and would be my suggestion. It's shorter (circa 10 hours) and nowhere near as brutally tough, but the story is fun and the gameplay, with the digging mechanic, is quite different to most other 2D sidescrollers. I really liked it a lot.

Hmm I think Hollow Knight sounds like more of my kind of game.

Any more opinions will be appreciated

if you like Muramasa I would try out Dust: An Elysian Tale. Both games share a lot in common: gorgeous art, gameplay and rpg elements. Also if I was you I would go for Hollow Knight over Steamworld any day of the week.

Golf story is a very fun golf rpg. It's very different as well. I wouldn't overlook it.

@Adnanilyas21, I'd recommend Onimusha Warlords. It has a "Metroidvania" structure, similar theme to Muramasa, and it's a classic PS2 remaster instead of an indie game, for a similar pricepoint (at least at regular pricing).

It's a tad dated in places, but I've been so engrossed in it. It's a fantastic time.

@RR529 I have played and pretty sure i finished Onimusha Warlords. The remaster looks too lazy to be honest - man i miss Onimusha such a good franchise

The best bit with the Onimusha remaster is the control scheme change. Previously Onimusha used the tank controls that were in the first three Resident Evil games. But in the remaster Capcom changed it to directional 3D controls. So now it plays more like DMC or Bayonetta.

@Magician I have to say that's a good change. The tank controls were ok back then but free controls are much better.

Would love a new Onimusha

@Adnanilyas21 but the tank controls in onimusha seemed to fit the old school game design. with the new controls I get lost and disorientated too easy when moving between pre rendered back grounds with fixed camera angels. the fast controls just didn't mesh with the dated game design n wished the options provided both new n old controls schemes.

@Adnanilyas21 Get Xenoblade 2.

Sakurai: Which is why I think we should forget about console wars and focus on what’s really important: enjoying the games themselves.

Adnanilyas21

@Trajan Thats another game i want - Xenoblade Chronicles 1 was one of the best games on the Wii and quite possibly in that generation too.

So little time
