I feel like the ground textures are way better than the meager effort Tantalus gave Twilight Princess, but I agree that Monster Hunter 5 will be the true test of how the series will look on Switch.

I feel like minimal ground clutter or homogeneous Breath of the Wild grass is the way to go. If you add a bunch of billboarded 2D elements it's only going to look crummy and mess with positioning in hunts.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Looks... acceptable. Like TPHD, better than the original, but not amazing.

The main character and the monsters themselves look great, whereas the environments (especially those muddy ground textures) not so much. In any case, it is a decent stepping stone for the series on the Switch, and Japan is going to go completely cray-cray over this game.

If anything, it makes me appreciate just how good the visuals are on the 3DS version!

If this game would come out in the west this year... isn't that kind of bizarre? Did we ever have so many high profile multiplayer focused games out in 1 year? Let alone the first.

This weapon and Gunlance are now the true anti-air Blademaster weapons of the game.

@meleebrawler Aerial SA and IG want to have a stern word with you.

Anyways, looks pretty nice. Gaf's crapping on it and the 3DS as a system while... pleasuring themselves to the stupid 4chan rumor. It's equal parts cringey and hilarious.

I haven't been this hyped for a game in... as long as I can remember. And I get hyped for games all the time. But finally, an HD Monster Hunter with real controls on the TV, and an HD Monster with real controls on the go too! MH3U was legendary as the only HD entry in the west, but this one is about to take the cake.

I am fully prepared to import this and navigate the maze of foreign text if need be. I must play this game. If the localization is coming this year then I think I'll wait but if it's going to be next year or maybe they don't even mention it at all, it's gonna be my first JP text import.

And can I just say how beautiful this game looks in HD- the 3DS version was immaculate for being 240p. I've always thought the games were the most visually stunning there was on the 3DS, and now it's clear why. Increase the resolution to 1080p with HD assets and some new textures... and it's like a whole new game!

I've waited for this moment for so long... just a little longer now. I hope and pray they announce the localization at E3. Just think:

Monster Hunter
Fire Emblem
Xenoblade
Zelda
Skyrim
Shin Megami Tensei
Dragon Quest

All on Switch. The glory days are here... now... in the Switch era!

@crimsontadpoles
Ya, I'd say even more than Zelda 😀

There's been a lot of excitement, and strangely, despite not being that excited for Fire Emblem Echoes, I've found that game to be among the best in the series, not in terms of map design or gameplay but characters, narrative and voice acting ( The voice acting is ridiculously good).

But ya, I think the excitement is coming from my memories with MH3U on Wii U. It was my first game in the series and I was just awestruck with it at the time. Grinding didn't bother me one bit- I was calling into work and playing for like 18 hours straight in binge sessions... no game has captivated me to the level that game captivated me.

I've been waiting for a return to that for nearly 5 years now. And this time it's gonna be even better cause the source material is far superior to 3U. And thank goodness we won't have to deal with that save transfer tool anymore. Don't get me wrong- I appreciate it very much and love the idea of changing save data between 3DS and Switch, needless to say it's sooooo much better to just grab the Switch and go. I'm going to pop that baby and tabletop mode and disconnect the controllers and show off monster hunter to all my coworkers.

They better pray cause I intend to make addicts of the lot of them

@DarthNocturnal

Ehhhhhhhyyya, ok, but I think you don't necessarily have to repeat the franchises of yesteryear to see days of glory. I'd love to see a return of Metroid and that would probably be the final major piece to the puzzle. But there's so much more now that wasn't around in days past, that it feels like a brand-new era of glory days- some of those games were around back then and some of them weren't. It's a new era.

But think on the fact that we are only a few months into the lifespan and those are the games we know we're coming. By the time the system has been out for five years is going to have a ridiculous line up of games, Metroid or not.

Not sure if that statement is in my favor or not lol... how can you not agree or how can you disagree or how can you not disagree 😵

We'll just let people make their own interpretations

@JaxonH lol it was in your favor! How can it be different? By the way ARMS hype can really drive me crazy!!

Oh I'm stoked for Arms too. It's so much fun- it feels like it did when Splatoon dropped on Wii U. I think it's every bit as worth a successor as the next big new IP.

But hey, do you hunt? When MHXX inevitably releases in the west, will you be joining us on this new HD excursion down Hunter Lane?

@FGPackers
That's right, we've hunted together before I believe. It's been a while. I remember doing a lot of hunting with Yokokua back in the day too.

I've never known any JP Monster Hunter game to have English text. Gaijin Hunter and other importers always play the game in Japanese, and he said he'll be making guides on how to navigate the Japanese for those that import. So ya, you'll probably be waiting for localization. Hopefully it gets announced at e3

@JaxonH unfortunately we have never played together before since i never played MH (again, unfortunately). But yeah, i'm really looking forward for this franchise to come on Switch!!

Huh... must've been someone else. Project1991 maybe. Who knows.

Anyways, it requires an investment and commitment to get into, but if you are willing to commit to playing you'll discover one of the greatest joys video games can offer. Good to play with veteran hunters who can show you the ropes and answer questions. You'll learn fast that way.

@Tsurii I think 'Monster Hunter Generations' on Switch might just be the best way to market this in the west. I don't know about first and second gen, but XX will be the smallest upgrade on a Nintendo system — only 2 new monsters.
