Eel

It looked like a Yoshi to me

Hm yes looking at it again, that's definitely a regular koopa troopa.

If it's $60, I might pass. Not because it looks bad, but because of the same reason I didn't buy ARMS, content looks lacking.
Plus, I didn't see Birdo, so that doesn't help.

@Tsurii There will be a demo of some sort. And yes, both Mario tennis 64 and gamecube were a thing.

They're doing both, I think that's why you may be confused.

We'll be getting a Mario Tennis Aces free online tournament that will be available as a free demo to download from the Switch eShop.

When the game is released there will also be online tournaments (kinda like Splatfests, I presume), and participating will allow you to unlock new outfits and playable characters.

I'm probably the only one that cares, but I love that they included motion controls.

I had a lot of fun with Wii Sports Tennis back on the Wii, and I'm glad the Switch will still have something kinda like that.

I think this is the same for Dark Souls Remastered, so if anyone who is like me and is interested but unsure, this would be the perfect opportunity to test it out. I am on the fence about Mario Tennis Aces as well, so will also be trying this out during the online tournament.

Was kinda lukewarm on this game at first. I was still planning to get it but, there wasn't a whole lot of hype.

But after that Direct, I'm drooling for Aces. It's like the Odyssey of Mario Tennis. Nintendo devs bringing their A game to Switch across the board.

Definitely not, I was very happily surprised that they included that. Sports games with motion controls can be loads of fun IMO.

I just hope that the motion controls are somewhat "1:1" and not that they just mimic the direction you slash in. It's fun to be able to rotate the racket etc.

More games with special meter should give you multiple options to spend it, rather than having to wait for it to fill completely for a payoff (looking at ARMS and Pokken).

Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.

This game looks much better than Ultra Smash

I honestly think that this looks like the best game in the series since Mario Power Tennis on the GameCube. It's crazy considering how meh the 3DS one was, and how much of a shameless cash grab the Wii U one was.

I'm way more hyped for this than I initially was. This looks like it could be loads of fun.

@Snaplocket I think it'll end up like ARMS regarding promotion.

@Snaplocket I was talking about the strategy, I mean look at it:

  • January 2017 (ARMS reveal)
  • April 2017 (Deeper look at the game, release date revealed)
  • May 2017 (Direct dedicated to ARMS, free Global Testpunch downloadable with sessions during the rest of the month)
  • June 2017, before launch (briefly shown in the Nintendo Spotlight event, featured in Treehouse Live and special E3 tournament
  • Game launches

So I think the Mario Tennis Aces equivalent would be:

  • January 2018 (reveal)
  • March 2018 (Deeper look at the game, release date and pre-launch tournament revealed)
  • April or May 2018 (Dedicated Direct, pre-launch tournament downloadable soon after Direct)
  • June 2018, before launch (E3 tournament and some gameplay during Treehouse Live)
  • Game launches

Anti-Matter

I really hope there is an Alternative Color option for Tennis outfits.
I want to see Mario / Luigi wear Blue & White or Aqua & White outfits.
They look so fabulous in those outfits colors.

They talked about redesigning the Mushroom Kingdom cast's outfits to be tennis-y, so I have zero hope of any sort of costume system in this game. The trend with Nintendo party games has been one of very apparent limited resources, so I very much doubt they'll be contracted to do any more asset work than they have to, even if this game isn't as rushed as Ultra Trash.

@Snaplocket The last half of that sentence explains my assumption.

If the Waluigi outfits are good the Internet will die like that esoteric entity in Evangelion.

I’ve been playing Odyssey for the first time lately, and while I don’t want him to be a part of Mario in Smash bros, I hope Cappy is a playable character for this game. I mean If Chain Chomp can make it so can Cappy!

Just a geek that likes video games, and spends to much time playing Smash Bros. and Fortnite.
