I've been very weary about this thanks to NDCube's track record with the series but all of the information on the game is already out there thanks to the leaks and I'm convinced to give it a try. Just used my remaining NSO voucher that has been sitting in my account since I bought them for Famicom Detective Club months back so I'm committed now.
It could use some more boards and characters and the mechanics still aren't perfect but it seems like it should be a fun time with some actual degree of skill and strategy involved unlike the nonsense that was Super Mario Party.
@Pizzamorg I would say Superstars is the better pick personally. I really didn't like Super due to the unbalanced economy, lacking boards, and strange mechanics. Superstars is going to be a complete return to the classic formula that so many people, myself included, love.

I would also like some opinions on which Mario Party to get as a newcomer that has never tried this series before, Super Mario Party or Mario Party Superstars? I would prefer the option that is more casual and easier for non-gamers to grasp, as I plan to buy this mainly to play with my wife and some friendly couples.
I have been trying non-stop to get my wife into gaming with games such as Overcooked, Dead Squared, and Mario Kart, without much success, and I want to make one last attempt with one of the most hyped party games of all time.
Wait a minute, Super Mario Party doesn't allow you to use the pro controller or third party controllers such as Binbok? How is this even possible?
Dunno about third party controllers, but yah, apparently it can only be played with the Joycon which kinda buggers you, as Joycon are expensive and you're likely going to need more than one. With Superstars, I can use the pro control and then give the two halves to my folks or whatever way round we want to do it.
Just bought the game today! I was gonna wait until Christmas (would've been quite the exciting present for me, lol) but I decided to play it sooner than that. Should get to my place on Tuesday.
@thiz I agree. I think Superstars is the obvious choice here. It's more accessible, has more maps, more minigames, more features, PLUS, all of it is better than Super.

I dont really understand this "which one should I get" conflict. I mean there is a game that was rated badly and a game that people seem to love. Either you chose awful motion controls and only 4 boards to play, which I dont know if it has online, but is probably dead now since since everyones playing the new game, or you get the great one everyone seems to like with all the classic mini games people learned to love the series for.
Not a hard decision to make in my book.
I mean you say that but there are three points difference between the two metacritic scores. It isn't like one is tracking a 20 and the other a 100. It is 76 to 79. The last party game on Switch seemed to review well overall, so I would have had no idea that there is such a dislike for that previous title, if not for places like this.
