I wish they saved this content for a future installment (or making this its own thing, like Mario Kart All Stars, without making it a new numbered entry).
I'll patiently hold out for a complete-on-cart release, even if it's a Japan exclusive (like the complete edition of Breath of the Wild).
This is also likely to cost $40 in Aussie bucks, so that's no freaking dice from me.
Knowing Covid is still wrecking havoc and Nintendo having a lot of franchises to work with while having a game that is still extremely well done, this is only option at this point instead still keeping Mario Kart fans with nothing new, so I'm cool with it. And it contains 48 tracks in total and even you can get it from free if you own NSO Expansion Pack, so it's still cool with me.

What do we think the odds of a new galaxy or odyssey track are?
Like do we know if they're all old tracks remastered? Because I noticed they used the words "may" and "some" and two of the track logos I saw were a rock shroom (galaxy) and a power moon (odyssey)

DK64 N64
Lego LotR Wii
Spirit Tracks DS

@FroZtedFlakerZz Mario Kart Tour is still getting new courses so could be released for Mario Kart Tour and then remastered for MK8 Deluxe. Rosalina's Ice World would already fit Galaxy though.
The game really should have had additional tracks five years ago when it launched but better late than never. Might even re-buy the game again digitally as I have been doing lately with multiplayer games.
Honestly I think its really interesting this was announced just a few months after the Smash DLC was done. Like it kinda feels like at some point Nintendo realized they had something really special with that and looked at what game would make the most sense to try to do something similar with.
Granted, it can't be as special, but I appreciate the effort (and a better deal than I would've expected too).
@FroZtedFlakerZz Regardnig Galaxy or Odyssey themed tracks, I'd love it, but I'm not that optimistic. Mainly, I'm bitter & skeptical of that because, Nintendo seemed so intent on ignoring Switch Mario Kart for so long. But!... Nintendo did make that Animal Crosing track, and Captain Toad Treasure Tracker got that New Donk City level. We'll see!
I rewatched the MK8 part of the Direct, and I noticed the direct details today seemed laser focused on the first 8 tracks they will release.
Since the six-wave-release-window spans now to the end of 2023, if they are spread out evenly, the waves will could be released quarterly.
When Crash Team Racing released dlc tracks, I loved that some tracks were season or holiday themed. I'd like to see MK8 get something like that with the dlc tracks.
So they were serious about increasing the value of NSO because adding dlc for the game most new switch owners buy...and adding it to NSO. That was smooth. I assumed the DLC in NSO thing would keep coming but honestly I wasn't expecting anything until around the holidays.

I'm a Dream Fighter. Perfume is Love, Perfume is Life.
I love how this is basically turning Mario Kart into an Ultimate version. 48 new tracks is insane.
Glad they'll be adding some of the courses from Tour. I've come to accept I'll never be comfortable playing Mario Kart on my phone, so I'm glad some of the courses from that game will be coming to the proper console version of Mario Kart.
Interestingly, this confirms we'll be going more than a decade without a new Mario Kart, and also heavily suggests that the Switch successor probably isn't coming until 2024.
@Ralizah You have people saying just make nine, and I understand that, but come on! this game already had a lot of characters and tracks, doesn't it make more sense just to add to it? Tour was just adding track after track anyway, thats why I rather just spend on dlc. Maybe a character pack is in order as well.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

@Ralizah All the tracks in the pass so far have appeared in Mario Kart Tour so it could be that all the tracks which appeared in Tour but not already in MK8 Deluxe is in the pass.
EDIT: Turns out Shroom Ridge and Sky Garden aren't currently in Mario Kart Tour, I don't play Mario Kart Tour but a quick search made it seem like they were. The other 6 are.
Here's something to make you feel old: MK8 has been out for so long that the tracks from a mobile game spinoff released 5 years after the original are now in MK8 as 'retro' tracks. Dear god.
