Topic: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

'Holiday/Winter' can cover November right?

I remember in the last direct the Zelda and Ganon amiibo were also slated for 'Holiday/Winter' and they're now releasing on November 3rd. Granted, amiibo production is a little more unpredictable but even so, I think a November release for Wave 6 is most likely.

It does seem early, but we're having the end of Mario Kart Tour, the physical version of the DLC, and a tournament - all in the same week. That's a lot for a "random" week in October.

I expected it to be later, mostly because Wave 3 was in late November/early December if I remember correctly. But it had Merry Mountain to tie it into Christmas. They had to pace the waves over two years.
...but now it's whatever courses are left, they can release it whenever. I can't see them being pressed for time if they're adding even more characters.

@WoomyNNYes Wave 4 had a different setup:

• February 8th - Direct announced Yoshi's Island for wave 4
• February 14th - Switch news section starts covering previously released tracks starting with wave 2's Wii Mushroom Gorge
• February 18th - Sky High Sundae
• February 21st - Tour London Loop
• February 25th - GBA Boo Lake
• February 28th - Tour Berlin Byways
• March 2nd - Full Wave 4 trailer released with March 9th release date

So pretty much they covered 3 wave 3 tracks before the full wave 4 trailer at a rate of 2 tracks per week. If they were to use that approach with the wave 5 tracks and Tour Athens Dash appeared tomorrow, it would line up with a wave 6 trailer next week.

The BCP is just Tour ports, and Toad's Factory was never remade in Tour. So unless it's added sometime in the next few weeks, Toad's Factory doesn't have a chance of making it in. Maybe in MK9.

Damn, it's been revealed that the Japan physical version only has waves 1-5 on the cart. Wave 6 is a download so it can release whenever.

Kind of defeats the purpose of it but I'm not surprised

The wait continues! Which is fine, I kind of prefer the hype. I can get bored of the new cups within a weekend.

@Grumblevolcano Told ya there's no BCP 2 coming. I suspect Nintendo is now solely focused on the long awaited successor to MK 8. Will probably release a year or two after the Switch 2(or whatever it's gonna be called) launches.

I've seen it reported on that wave 5 spotlights have started in America as of yesterday with Tour Athens Dash and GCN Daisy Cruiser so wave 5 spotlights should be completed there on October 25th.

Europe has now started the wave 5 spotlights with Tour Athens Dash. With Japan having completed all 8, NA at 2/8 completed and Europe 1/8 completed it is looking like wave 6 will probably release in late October/early November. Hopefully it doesn't clash with Splatoween like wave 5 clashed with the ice cream Splatfest.

NA has gotten their wave 5 final spotlights (Wii Koopa Cape and Tour Vancouver Velocity) so there's speculation about the wave 6 trailer happening tomorrow.

@Grumblevolcano I could see it given how strangely quiet they've been on it, but I personally think they might wait until next week for 2 reasons:
1. MP3 just got announced for NSO pretty much less than a day ago and announcing MK8's final wave would most likely kill a lot of the buzz surrounding it.

and

2. If they save it for next week, it'll most likely come out on November 10th, making it so each week for the next month will have some new Mario/Mario-related release.

@Fizza The 2nd point is possible either way, the announcement and release of waves 2-5 (wave 1 was a special case in which the Direct revealed the whole wave) were:

• Wave 2 - Announce July 28th 2022, release August 4th 2022 (7 days)
• Wave 3 - Announce November 21st 2022, release December 7th 2022 (16 days)
• Wave 4 - Announce March 2nd 2023, release March 9th 2023 (7 days)
• Wave 5 - Announce July 6th 2023, release July 12th 2023 (6 days)

Wave 3 could be seen as either the odd one out (wave 6 being about a week gap) or a result of the holiday season (wave 6 being about a 2 week gap).

I'd expect the trailer tomorrow or the week after, and the release date to be the following week.

I'm sure they have to space out the schedule with Mario Kart Tour ending, Mario Wonder, Mario Party on NSO.
...October was busy for Mario, wasn't expecting it.

A Wave 6 announcement was always gonna be next week in my mind. But I certainly wouldn't complain either way!

Although wouldn't it be a bit odd if they had 2 expansion pack announcements running simultaneously? Idk.

@Nintoz It has happened before like wave 4 was announced on March 2nd and Metroid Fusion was announced on March 3rd.

I can't believe the final wave is almost here. The final hoora for one of the biggest games in video game history that's been going strong for nearly a decade now. While I'm definitely looking forward to it and seeing what the final batch of tracks are, but still makes me sad. 😔 Also, make your predictions now if Nintendo will fix Sunset Wilds. I'm leaning heavily towards no.

Walmart Canada Gaming tweeted something to do with Funky Kong (Canada time zone means the tweet will have been yesterday):

The day before the wave 3-5 trailers, that twitter account tweeted something about Mario Kart DLC and Funky Kong is in wave 6 so it could be a tease for trailer today.
