@Anti-Matter They said kart selection, not map selection.
@Ninfan I personally go with Biddybuggy, Azure Rollers, and BOTW Paraglider and play as Shy Guy. The speed is super low but the handling and traction are phenomenal. Besides, you don't need high speed for 200cc anyway. I used this combo and got 3 stars on every 200cc cup with it.

@Ninfan Yes, some builds work better for 200cc. You're smart to pick up on that. Heavyweight characters are harder to keep on the track with 200cc. So, choose a middleweight or lightweight character, shyguy, luigi, etc. Even with lighter weight characters, you'll still need to drag the brake while drifting to keep the kart on the track for the sharper turns. So, you'll need to fat finger the buttons with your thumb; Put your thumb on the A for the gas, and be ready to roll your thumb to also press B to apply the break while drifting.
Start your drifting & turning earlier. You'll see in this clip, I start turning from the far side of the track, because 200cc drifting doesn't turn as sharp. And, using the brake while drifting, allows you to slow down and turn sharper while drifting. If you listen to the clip, you'll hear the tires screech when I'm using the brake while drifting. Also, pay attention to the line I take through the turns. It may be different than the lines you take in turns with 150cc. I made a clip for you to show how I get through the turns on yoshi circuit, 200cc.
That's is how you stay on the track with 200cc, Ninfan.
If you put the time into learning 200cc, it's very fun, and VERY worth it. It's a whole new world, and a whole new way to get around tracks faster. If you want a little extra help while you're practicing, you can turn on autosteer to help keep you on the track.
Good luck!
Regarding builds for 200cc, I learned with shyguy, pipe frame kart, and little roller wheels. I have prefered to pick wheels and setups with higher handling stats for sharper turns, but I'm not sure it matters that much. Picking a lighter weight character may be the main thing you need to worry about for 200cc.
@WoomyNNYes I've actually been using the brakes while I drift in 200cc and certain sharp turns, and that really changed my gameplay for the better. You know that turn in Music Park before the glider section? I used to keep bumping into the wall while drifting, but now it's much easier for me. I practically brake drift on a regular basis now!

@MarioLover92 Yeah, that turn before the glider section in Music Park, I actually stopped tricking off the drum going into that turn, because tricking that drum before the turn = going into that turn too fast. So, skipping the trick, I can drift that turn without braking. I think that's how I do it? I don't know if that's the fastest way to deal with that turn, but what's felt best to me. If my time trial ghost in music park tricks that drum before that turn, it's probably an old ghost.
So, you got 200cc skillz, but no 200cc time trials times in wave 1 tracks. NL Community rules say if you race 200cc, you must place some 200cc times in MK8 time trials. https://www.nintendolife.com/rules (just making ***** up about the community rules.🙃) But, I did notice you don't seem to have any 200cc times in wave 1 tracks.
@WoomyNNYes That's only because I almost exclusively play online races. I remember placing 200cc times for the Mushroom Cup courses, but that's it. I saw a YouTube video about advanced drifting techniques after a friend of mine told me about soft drifting, and brake drifting was also mentioned in it. The latter was actually the easiest technique for me, and it's made my gameplay quite a bit better, which is why I now do it regularly while I play.

Ok so this isn't really related to Mario Kart 8 per se, but more so a random idea I had for the series in general. So let's just say that Nintendo never goes out of business and keeps making Mario Kart games, all numbered titles. What would they have to call the 64th entry in the series? Surely they wouldn't call it Mario Kart 64. Would it be Mario Kart 64 2? 64 Deluxe? 64 1/2?
These are the things that keep me up at night.

In the year 3000 marketing may not like large iteration numbers and move onto mathematical equations. The second coming of Albert Einstein will revolutionize the world and explain the universe with the ground breaking double equal signs equation: Mario Kart 8==D. If, however, it's an Idiocracy-style future: Mario Kart In YerButt, or Mario Kart <ascii shoulder shrug>. (forgive me if these are dumb boy jokes)(also, ascii shoulder shrugs don't work in here, NL site formatting always drops part of it for some reason, and ruins them)
@MarioLover92OHHH, I AM SO ANGRY that some of my personal best 200cc times have been beat! Oh, this is NOT good!!! (🤣) At this very moment, I am scrutinizing your Coconut Mall 200cc ghost, which is about 2 seconds faster than my personal best.😠😠😠 (😆) (this is great)
@TowaHerschel7 Hey thanks for taggin me and sorry it took so long to get back to ya! But AGH, we're all still waiting on this Wave 2. With the partner Direct now past, I do hope they give us an update soon! I'm just hyped to get even more courses in the circulation.
@MarioLover92 Ahh... for some reason I thought I heard a little chatter on maybe battle courses coming through or something. Oh man, more MK64 stuff would be great even if not battle courses. Oh yea for sure, there's plenty of nostalgia for 64, after all it was the first 3D one in the series!
@tekoii I think there was a datamine for Mario Kart Tour having battle stages, but not 8 Deluxe. Oh I agree for sure, there's quite a few courses from 64 that I'd love to see. Koopa Troopa Beach, Kalimari Desert, and even Frappe Snowland would be cool to have to name only a few. If they're gonna throw in more battle courses to 8 Deluxe, Block Fort and Double Deck are the ones I'd want the most!

@Grumblevolcano@StarPoint Correct me if I'm being ignorant, but why would this lead to an announcement of Wave 2? Is it suspicious? Probably. But I'm not sure it really means we'll be getting an announcement soon since it could easily be track highlights for the sake of track highlights and nothing more.
That being said, I'm going stir crazy over this so I'd love to be wrong.
