@XandertheWise Probably the objectively best Mario Kart there is. Gorgeous visuals, large roster, brilliant tracks and an amazing battle mode with tons of options and things to do. I prefer some other games in the series for personal reasons but I would highly recommend it. There's a reason it's the highest selling Switch game.
@XandertheWise It's one of Nintendo's flagship games, which has outsold almost every game ever, and it's sales numbers have been in the top ten virtually every month since Switch launched five years ago.
Short answer, yes.
Mario Kart 8 is why I got a Switch. Mario Kart 8 IS the benchmark in which all other kart racer style games are measured. It's fun to try and drift as long as you can to try and get more boosts than the other racers. Winning grand prix cups is challenging, and racing online is fun. The game is very quick loading, so there's minimal load screen time, and maximized plalying time. It's gorgeous. And, it has an auto steering setting to keep them on the track, in case there's a young one around, they can still participate. There's also a battle mode.

I mean, you're asking on a Nintendo enthusiast site. So, I think you can anticipate how the responses will go.
@XandertheWise Yes it is, it's my favorite in the Mario Kart series for sure. Love the courses in that game, and there are a ton of them! It's also easy to pick up and play, even if you're a newcomer, and the controls are generally very good. It's best played in multiplayer though, either locally or online. I still play online from time to time, as well.
If you will be playing with friends or online then yes. But if you are just going to play by yourself then no. Once you do every track then it gets pretty boring.
Currently playing: Pokemon Soul Silver, Mario RPG
Enos 1:15
And it's full of content, by far the largest Mario Kart.
Best in the series - depends on your focus, it definitely is one of the best. I got my personal favourite with Gamecube's "Double Dash", but MK8 is close.
Yes, NintendoWife I am serious. that is why I am asking if Mario Kart 8 "deluxe" is worth getting. That and I never played a Mario Kart game. the only mascot character game i played was the old Crash Racing game for original Playstation like 18 years ago
@XandertheWise Oh, you've played the older Crash Bandicoot Racing? Then, I think you'll probably like Mario Kart 8. I was wondering if you had any racing game experience.
You can also get Crash Team Racing on the Switch. Which is a remake of the older Crash Bandicoot Racing games. Plust they've added some new tracks. It looks & runs great. Although, it's 50 second load screens will seem lengthy compared to Mario Kart 8. And the load screens are a bit of a drag for online races. I think the load screen times are similar on other consoles. Crash Team Racing's online population isn't as strong as it was for the first two years. I did a few online races a week or two ago - it's not as full as it use to be, sometimes there's a wait for other players, but you can still get races.
I love both Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart 8.
Actually, the last consoles I had were PS2 and GameCube. In 2016, I played and loved MK7 so much, I knew I had to get a Switch when the console launched, so I could get Mario Kart 8.
I would say, statistically, chances are very high that you'll like Mario Kart 8. I ended up loving Mario Odyssey and Zelda Breath of the Wild, too.
I've played every Mario Kart, and I don't see anything being close to MK8 in terms of overall presentation. It nails everything. I could understand someone saying they have fonder memories of whichever version they played first or the version they played every night in their dorm room with their best buds for four years, but on technical merits, my opinion is that this game is easily the best of the series.
