What are the chances we get a demo for this one? I’d love to give it a try, but without trying I probably won’t buy.

Although maybe my library will have it… now that I remember it’s how I tried Aces.

@Pirate1

I'm a proponent of the idea that Nintendo might shadow drop a demo during their E3 presentation.

Considering the release is only ten days later, it would be a good promotion for the game.

I am looking forward to this, I prefer Mario Golf over Mario Tennis games

A demo dropped during E3 would be awesome. Let us try a tiny portion of the single player, maybe even allow a hole or two of multiplayer. Let progress carry over. That would be pretty sweet.

I have to admit it looks really sweet, it even has bosses. And there will be free dlc, one of them being a new donk city course! If we can ever download the dlc, that is...

To those who've played the game:

I was mainly interested in picking this up for multiplayer golf fun with family, since we enjoyed Wii Sports Resort's golf for years. I don't really care about the speed golf or adventure modes, and I already know the motion controls aren't as sophisticated as those in WSR (which is a shame), but otherwise, how would you say it compares? Is it a worthy replacement for the type of laid-back golf entertainment we're looking for?

It’s actually pretty good.

I’m a diehard Wii Sports Club Golf fan. It is the gold standard by which all other golf games are compared, at least mechanically.

At first the motion felt a little off and hard to grasp. But I played 18 holes with it, and by the time I was done it felt almost as good as Wii Sports. Not even kidding. Once I learned how far you rear back before your swing has an effect on your power as much as how fast you swing, and once I learned how to properly utilize curving… I started getting really good with it. First 6 holes were bogeys, double bogeys or at best par, but the last 6 holes were all eagles, or at worst par.

It’s fun. Best motion golf to date behind Wii Sports. It’s definitely a worthy replacement for laid-back golf entertainment. I’m impressed. And I’m so glad to because at first I really didn’t think the motion was that great and I was kind of bummed out about that, but it just has a learning curve and you have to put in some practice with it. Didn’t take long. Just do 18 holes and you should be rocking and rolling by the time you’re done.

Hey everyone, could you please provide some clarification for the new mario golf:

1) How many stages are there, i've read there are 6 courses, but how many 'holes' per course. (c.f. mario kart with grand prix and individual tracks.)

2) What local multiplayer is available for 4 people playing on 1 switch (is there any split screen for the 'action' modes, etc)

Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

18 holes per course as I understand it. I haven’t unlocked them all but I’m pretty sure they all have 18.

As for multiplayer, you can do 2 player splitscreen in any mode you like. But the switch can’t handle rendering more than two at the same time. So if you have 4 players, you can still play on the same Switch, but not speed golf where it’s at the same time. It has to be passing the controller taking turns. Otherwise you can just use local wireless and have two players on each switch.

@JaxonH So you played 18 holes and had trouble the front 9, but then by the last 6 holes you were scoring eagles? It sounds like this game has no difficulty level whatsoever. What fun is it if you're getting birdies and eagles every hole after just 12 holes of practice? Yikes.

It was the practice course.

From what I've heard off my friend it's completely dumbed down and very easy. 😔 It picks the best line/putt so you don't have to think about that, plus the hazards, rough and wind barely effect your ball compared to the other games. The courses are also much flatter
I believe the swing meter has been simplified too and you don't even have to press the button for accuracy now but I'm not quite clear on that.

I really hope the DLC courses are challenging. I might buy it then.

Really thinking of getting PGA Golf instead! I've seen it very cheap and apparently the online is still active as it's crossplay. I think Mario Golf has become too party game and not golf game enough for me. Toadstool Tour seemed to strike the best balance there.

Anybody got any tips for the xc golf? I can't get past the 6 hole round because I can't figure out how to reliably get up to the highest hole.

Is it true that there's no tournaments and cups like Toadstool Tour had BTW? I knew there wasn't online but not even offline?

How does this game compare to the original Mario Golf 64? I used to love this on the N64, but reviews for Super Rush look much worse than for the original, which had fantastic reception.

Is this game really worse then MG64, or is the reception just relatively poor, because there are not enough innovations? Will I enjoy this as much as I did MG64?

Nobody can know that. There’s plenty of gameplay out there so you’ll just have to watch and judge for yourself.

But the reviews aren’t much worse. There’s like a six point spread between all the Mario golf games, and only 3 between this and the last entry. People are just much more vocally negative nowadays when they don’t like an aspect or something. There’s less courses, but it sees the the free DLC will rectify that.

@Clyde_Radcliffe
It doesn’t pick the best line, not usually anyways. It’ll quite often line you right into a sand pit or a tree. I almost always have to move or adjust. It’s not always directly though. Often where it lands you will screw you on your next shot. You could just roll with what it gives you and do reasonably well by adjusting your power to compensate, but, that doesn’t seem very optimal from what I’ve played. And it doesn’t account for wind, and it also doesn’t account for run (only carry), and it doesn’t account for elevation.

The putting does aim it right at the hole, but, that’s not accounting for sloping terrain. And, I’m pretty sure that’s how other Mario Golf games did it anyways. It’s fine for short puts, but anything with distance is going to break left or right, even from slight slopes.

The rough causes curvature of your shot, and it greatly extends the risk variance in the shot meter. Cant really say if it affects you less or more because it’s a different system than before. Wind seems about the same as always though.

But ya, if you’re looking for a more realistic golfing game, this isn’t it. In the same way Mario Kart doesn’t offer 5 speed manual transmissions.

It doesn't even have any cups or tournaments like the N64 game from what I can see. 😕

NintendoLife put up a video using motion controls. This is a really fun way to play. I’ve done about 50-50 so far with buttons and motion, but I love them both. Motion brings back memories of Wii Sports, an experience I’ve been desperately wanting on Switch.

@Snaplocket
Tennis is fun, but I’ve always had an affinity for golf games. Not sure why. I don’t play golf in real life, but for some reason, golf video games are super fun. Not when they’re a sim- I hate sims of all kinds. Too monotonous, overly complex and rigid. But arcady sports games? I’m all about em. Be it Tony Hawk for skating, Mario Golf for golf, Mario Tennis for tennis, Trials Rising for extreme motorcycle trials, Monkey Ball mini-games, etc. I think Wii Sports Club is the best arcade style sports game ever made. Although Wii Sports Resort had more variety, it couldn’t match the golf in Club. And it wasn’t HD. Speaking of which, the realistic immersion of Wii Sports Club Golf is what made it so great, without bogging you down with sim-like mechanics.

I think what made me stop playing Aces was the difficulty. The AI was crushing me in a match where a pole was in the center of the net, and the ball could bounce off the pole. Love the concept, but my skill level just wasn’t up to scratch. After several failed matches in a row I put down the game and never came back. But my friend at work loves the game to death.

Golf is so fun though. I sunk a few approach shots for Birdies today and it felt incredible.
