I've been playing a lot of kingdom battle lately, as I'm heading into the final boss battle I'm reminiscing over how good this game has been. Very rarely does combining two different sets of characters, with a gameplay style that neither has ever been in before work so well. From the cheeky humor to the challenging later levels and fantastic boss battels ( one event reminded me of the great might poo ) has made me realize this game is so much better than what I thought it would be, so this got me wondering to whether this game should get a sequel. I get the feeling that the game didn't sell as sell as Nintendo or Ubisoft would of liked, so we may never get a sequel, but I'm curious to know what everyone else thinks.
@WoomyNNYes i literally finished it 30 mins ago. i loved it!! from the cheeky humor to the entertaining boss battles. it was also quite challenging later, but could of done with an additional world in the base game just to pad it further. I would of also replaced beep-o as whilst he some great lines and was a big part of the story, controlling him in the puzzle sections of the world was quite fiddly.
I'm sure I remember seeing something about it selling more than 2 million & that was a couple of years ago or so .... It's been in sales several times since, so it's almost certainly quite a lot more by now If anyone knows where to find the latest such figures, perhaps they can help?
@BruceCM wiki still says 2mil and its the most successful non first party game on switch. 2mil seems pretty meagre compared to what other games sell tho......
I enjoy picking this one up and playing a level or two occasionally. Taking me a while, so haven’t come close to beating it (on world 3), but really like what this game offers. Great humor, fun play, challenging. And it’s relatively inexpensive.
Edit: to stay on topic, I would like a sequel at some point.
Wiki says 'by September 2018 it'd sold over 2m', though, @Lotrobella .... So, it's not counting anything since then! Presumably because nobody has put the figures in?
@Pirate1@BruceCM good point on the sales figures but i doubt if it sold more than 4-5 mil tops. Pirate, there is only one more world after world 3 so keep going
Minecraft is probably the bestselling third-party title on Switch by now, unless you count F2P stuff like Fortnite, but Mario + Rabbids has surely done pretty well. Starlink is Ubisoft’s big commercial failure!
M+R does have that Donkey Kong DLC - I’m guessing that was Ubisoft testing the waters to see how much appetite people had for more.
M+R is one of those games that’s always on sale that I keep looking at and thinking: “Maybe next time, when I’ve got less in the backlog.” Bit like Okami!
It's truly a lovable game. Very charming with just the right amount of strategy and exploration. The formula did get a bit stale for me toward the end, but I still loved it and I really enjoyed the DLC.
I'd be shocked if there isn't at least interest in a sequel. But I feel like its more likely it'd be a different crossover, since they already did an entire DLC campaign as well. Also, despite being very successful, Mario + Rabbids pales in comparison to the big hits from either company. It's closer to an Arms than a Splatoon 2.
And at the risk of bringing up the elephant in the room, I'm not sure how much from a PR perspective a company like Nintendo wants to work with Ubisoft right now. In a year, maybe, but not right now.
I absolutely loved M+R (including the DLC, which is even better than the base game)!
I saw an interview, where the game director said, that he would love to make a sequel, if the game sells well. Since they sold at least 2 million copies, I think it's pretty certain we'll get a sequel.
@BruceCM
Maybe Ubi will do this same kind of tactics crossover with Zelda, perhaps more focused on dungeon delving or something like that. It is the anniversary year coming up and we've seen other genre crossovers with Zelda.
