I think this was their original intent for the collection. Back when it was first leaked one of the original leakers on Resetera was telling everyone that they were expecting way too much and it was mostly going to be a simple improvement of the resolution (or something like that).

@-Green- that seemed more like logical speculation rather than insider knowledge as Ninty likes to sell remasters one by one like they did with the Zelda games on Wii U and the Wii U ports on the Switch. Besides the Metroid Prime trilogy and All Stars on the SNES I struggle to think when Ninty have bundled games together.

Maybe. I just went in with the expectation that it’d be mostly normal ports.

I wonder what will be more rare this holiday, a physical copy of Super Mario 3D All Stars or the next gen consoles

Has anyone seen the RGT85 video about the remasters? He thinks Sunshine has had a significant visual upgrade.

I really don't mind the games retaining their "classic" look, but it would have been cool if we got "remastered" versions using Super Mario Odyssey assets but with an option to play with the original visuals if the player desired.

Still, three great games all on one one cart is hard to pass up.

I think 64 would've looked particularly bad with Odyssey's visuals. Most of the fan-made Mario 64 remasters look very empty and sparse.

I prefer them keeping it this way. Though I think Galaxy 2 should've been included.

Yeah there’s some sort of cheapness to it when people try to make 64 look better. I think it would require a serious full-on remake attempt to make it feel more modern and still look good.

Or more like a reimagining.

The DS version did manage to freshen it up by changing very little beyond textures, but the DS could get away with that.

@Eel
Is the DS version harder or easier than original N64 version?

@MarioBrickLayer Sunshine definitely looks much better. The original on the gamecube didn't look to bad either, but this one I can tell has been upgraded. Still doesn't make the collection worth 60$ though.

@Anti-Matter I never played 64DS so can't help you there. I've heard it had trashy controls though.

Nah, just higher resolution and a slight change in colour balance. That may be new shaders, but it's probably just "gamma correction" (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_correction)

@Eel Oh yeah forgot about those. Watched a PeanutButterGamer vid many moons ago showcasing that gambling one. Looked fun. Never been into gambling irl, but something about that one looks so addicting.

Also, haha! New page new topic! Mwahahahahahaha!

Undoubtedly this due to the bizarre limited time release window coupled with the fact that it looks like there will be next to be nothing else coming out on the switch

Eel

@Anti-Matter you sure can.

All DS games will simply map the circle pad to work like a dpad though. So there’s no difference between using either.

The games are available for preorder now, and will be sold for half a year after release as well. There will be no shortage of these games until after March. Anyone who wants this game can pre-order it right now. Plus the digital version will be available until March as well, and over half the gamership has transitioned to digital.
