“ For those who are used to the original releases, the controls take a little getting used to. People complain a lot about Mario 64's camera. It's really just that an analog stick is a poor substitute for the N64's C buttons. It's by no means broken, but doesn't feel as natural as playing with an N64 controller.”
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
Mario Galaxy question: wondering if anyone can help me turn off the motion controls when playing handheld?
I'm playing using the pro controller and touching the screen to collect stars is fine but the motion control reticle keeps distracting me on screen when I move my hands in any direction.
I didn't get it before 8:00 pm as they said. In fact they haven't shipped it at all yet.
The funny part is that my brother bought it today, we use the same account. His copy is on its way and will be there tomorrow (he lives in a different state).
I have (almost) no complaints about this release. Each game looks and plays great whether handheld or on my 80" TV. The only niggling criticism I have is that I wish there was an option to invert the Y axis in Sunshine, but it's one of those things you can get used to. My 13-year old son really likes the pointer control in Galaxy. He prefers it to the Wii Remote because he doesn't have to keep the controller pointed directly at the screen, and it doesn't mess him up when the cat walks in front of the sensor bar.
I went to Target, and bought another copy. Planning to surprise my nephew with it, especially since he likes Mario and never had a chance to play these classics.
Well, this idea I had aged poorly. I was playing Goose Game tonight and my nephew was on playing 3D All-Stars. Hope he's enjoying these classics. Looks like the extra copy is going back to the store.
I ordered from Amazon, and my copy is being delivered next week according to tracking. So a bit more of a wait for me. Hope everyone's enjoying the game.

I would like to know that too for when I play it.
@Northwind You have only missed tons of frustration by skipping Sonic Adventure DX and Epic Mickey 😁.
The end of the clip is funny and you're right about the exaggerated inertia of objects and the slippery surfaces. We all have seen those blocks travelling unstoppable through the stage after being thrown and Mario falling into the abyss after touching a slight slope. I think that Mario's controls are good except for turning at low speed. When Mario is running and jumping or sliding at full speed on a slide it feels right.
Super Mario 64 is a game people enjoy more when they know their way around. The 45°-steps "Lakitu" camera only makes sense with a N64 controller, the camera should have been made progressive on Switch, and the "Mario" camera is useful for crossing narrow bridges, if that helps anyone.
What makes Super Mario 64 great is the balanced gameplay that combines action, exploration and platforming perfectly. The Galaxy games focus more on action and Odyssey focuses more on exploration. Super Mario Sunshine gameplay is as balanced as Super Mario 64 but everything is expanded and enhanced. Super Mario 3D World is 2D Mario game turned into 3D.
@Apportal My man is appreciating Super Mario Sunshine 👍.
@Northwind Indeed it is. I'm happy my brother was able to get a copy of the game with no problem, and my nephew is experiencing two Mario games my brother and I played when we were younger (never did play Galaxy, that will be new to me). Haha, I could, but I won't. I really don't like scaplers. XD
At least buying it, I learned a local Target got in a lot of copies nonetheless and it wasn't difficult to buy a copy, though it's a limited game.

Super Mario 64 doesn’t have bad controls. It’s just it’s best played with a n64 controller. It’s harder to control Marios speed because with the Wii/wiiU/switch controllers analogue stick when you move around, Marios always at full speed making him feel slippery.
I think you are right. The walking speeds are not mapped correctly to the modern sticks, it was easier to control Mario slowly on N64.
These upscaled Mario Sunshine cut scenes are weird looking. Does Peach have eyelashes or not? Now that's some weird blur. I'm still happy we got the mario games though. Gameplay looks good.
Super Mario 64 marks one one of the rare-ish cases in the genre where you can't always see the spot you need to land on.
You haven't played Sonic Adventure DX and Epic Mickey 😂. Worst cameras ever.
When I think of awful cameras, The Simpsons Game on Wii is the first game that springs to mind. I'm sure I've experienced worse, but what made The Simpsons stand out so much was the fact that I tolerated it to the point of actually beating the game.
There's no way I was aiming for 100% though, nor do I have any desire to play it again.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

Well, I ended up getting my copy of 3D All-Stars in the mail! Decided to start with Mario 64 so that I can get it over with.
Got 12 stars so far, and I still really, really dislike every aspect of this game. I've never experienced so little joy and so much aggravation playing a Nintendo game before.
I've never managed to finish it, but I'm going to this time. I'm going to collect all the stars. And then I'm never playing it again.

@Snatcher I first played it on the Wii in 2010-ish, and I've just never enjoyed it. Tried it again on Wii U. Same story. Now I'm trying it here. The controls, camera, level design, physics, etc. all just suck. I mean, I get that this was one of the first 3D games ever made, that it's legendary, etc. but boy, it has NOT held up well over time.
But I need to beat it. Any time I talk about the various Mario games I've played and enjoyed, there's always this big asterisk where I have to explain that I could never really get into this one, and, consequently, have never beaten it. It's a part of my gaming life I need to put behind me, and I'm only ever going to do that if I get all the stars and see the staff roll.

@Ralizah I know like I understand it was great for its time but the new gen of gamer might think its outdated and old players that have played the game before its just not good I just did the (i'm about to talk about the two first power stars in the game if you don't care for that then read on but if you don't want hints stop reading)king bomb-omb star and the chain chomp star and just din't have fun.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!
