@mariomaster96 A targeting system or the right stick to guide the tongue should work.

Right stick wouldn't work cause that would cause the same problem (can't use right stick and jump buttons at the same time)

The right stick is also used to control the camera in the more open levels. That could probably be reassigned to shoulder buttons, but then those buttons would need to move elsewhere. It'd be a whole lot of trouble. They should still do it though.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I love how short the menu is. I hated how Odyssey had that long menu telling you you can use motion controls at the beginning of the game. This just jumps right into it. I love it.

Take back what I said, Sunshine is the one that got the most graphical treatment. Unlike Galaxy, it's clearly noticeable at all parts. There were only certain points in galaxy where I noticed.

64 is my favourite Mario soundtrack ever. I’m happy about the music player thing!!! I do wish you could make playlists or at least skip songs while the screen is turned off.

I beat the first Bowser fight on my second try, but in my opinion it would be the first round. The first round I walked off the cliff because I didn’t realize you could walk during cutscenes. 🤦‍♂️

Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

And another thought crosses my mind: the complaints about Odyssey being too easy to acquire moons. It would be just as quick and easy in 64 if it didn't boot you out of the world for every star.

This is a huge bugbear of mine. Yesterday, I was almost done collecting 100 coins in the first stage, and the cannon shot me into a star I'd already gotten, and I had to go right back to the start again.

nope, I never liked Cool Cool Mountain or its other icy counterpart. Made 64’s already terrible controls 10x worse

Glad someone else has said it - I thought it was my crappy skills (it may also be) due to not playing the game in a long time. Ice/snow levels overall in any game tend to piss me off no end.

Just wanted to say: Galaxy with a Pro-Controller is pure perfection. It's like as if this game was always supposed to be played with a proper controller

This is what put me off the game originally. I bought it when it was released in 2007 but it just became a total drag with awkward motion controls, and really frustrating. Suffice to say, I didn't get too far into the game before I shelved it and never came back to it. Looking forward to playing it properly this time.

@Dezzy I mentioned twice a targeting system on this thread, that would be better.

@Apportal 😁 Super Mario Sunshine got the biggest upgrades: widescreen, HD and the oversized HUD has been reduced significantly. The levels are huge so it's nice to have all that improved.

Oh yes, I also hate that screen on Super Mario Odyssey. It should appear when you start a new file, not every time you play the game. I'm collecting moons until Super Mario 3D All-Stars arrives.

@BabyYoshi12 LOL The camera is far away, it has happened to all of us for one reason or another.

Been playing tonight. I could play all three games on the Wii that's still hooked up, yet I'm totally loving this version. Galaxy without having to waggle the hell out of the controller? Give me a Pro Controller and gyro controls anytime - it's absolutely fantastic.

The controls in Sunshine do take a bit of getting used to, but one you get past that learning curve I'm really getting into it too again - I daresay I'm preferring it on the Switch because of the display, maybe it's just the novelty though!

Joycon Drift makes 64 borderline unplayable. There are so many narrow platforms where the control sticks drifting at just the wrong time instantly sends you to your doom. I've died about 5 times in the first Bowser area simply because I keep drifting off a cliff.

EDIT: Finally beat it after like 10 tries. But that was a lot harder than it should've been.

I'm at 54 stars in 64 so far. Gotta break for now, but I think I'll put more time in tonight.

@Northwind looks like you got a nice friend there. Which game are you planning on playing first?

I absolutely agree. It was tricky to get used to the new mapping, but once I did, it was even better than the original controls. And the OG's controls were awesome.

Can anyone confirm you can play with a GameCube controller on sunshine? I'd assume so but I just want to make sure before I order one from Amazon.

@NintendoByNature thanks. I actually got my copy on the 17th (Best Buy sent it early I guess) so I've had more time than most. I'm hoping I'll have 64 pretty much done by Sunday.

@Losermagnet sweet deal..its been a good while since I've spent more than a couple hours with the game (about 20 years) so this will be a great stroll down memory lane.

@Northwind yes, 64 is revolutionary but it did not age well at all. And with the new mapping on the switch controller it made already terrible controls even worse.

Galaxy is by far my favorite so far. But surprisingly Sunshine isn’t close behind. I love the new controls and graphics. The level design isn’t as bad as I remembered it being years ago.

For now, I’d rank it #4 best out of all the games. I both love and hate it.

I just received my two copies today. One to play, and one for my ever growing Nintendo collection.

My first impressions are very positive. It's awesome just how much better each game looks over the original releases. For all the complaints, I don't think a lot of people realize just how much better the games look compared to the originals.

I have an N64 hooked up through an Eon Super 64, a GameCube hooked up through a Kaico GC adapter, and a Wii U all hooked up to a 50 inch Toshiba 4K TV. All these systems show their age, but they look great considering I'm no longer using a CRT.

Compared to my setup with the original releases, 3D Allstars looks fantastic. I have to use smoothing on my N64 and artificial scan lines on my GameCube to get a decent picture and Allstars looks so much better.

For those who are used to the original releases, the controls take a little getting used to. People complain a lot about Mario 64's camera. It's really just that an analog stick is a poor substitute for the N64's C buttons. It's by no means broken, but doesn't feel as natural as playing with an N64 controller.

The inverted camera in Sunshine is going to take some time to get used to, but I understand the decision to change it. It would be nice to be able to change it back, for those familiar with the GameCube version. I heard someone saying that you can't do the over the shoulder aiming for FLUDD. This isn't true. You just click the right stick and it works just like the original.

It's a little weird using the touchscreen to collect star bits in Galaxy, but works well enough. It's nice to have the spin mapped to a button press.

The thing that worried me most before playing was how quickly and easily it would be to switch from one game to the next. I'm happy to report that it's quick and painless. Loading a game is a lot faster than I thought it would be. I'll play 3D Allstars the same way I played the SNES Allstars, playing a level or two and quickly switching between games.

Could 3D Allstars be better? Sure. What couldn't be improved? Overall this is a fantastic release. Each game could stand toe to toe with any modern 3D platformer. This is a must for any fan of Mario or 3D platformers.

Got SM3DAS in today and played a bit of SM64. Got 7 Stars so far (5 in Bob-Omb Battlefield, 1 in Whomp's Fortress, and 1 in the Secret Slide). There's definitely something here, but my goodness it's slippery (to the point I'm dreading Cool, Cool, Mountain, lol). I'm going to try to see it through to the end though, simply because I was never able to as a kid.

Also, I thought there was supposed to be a secret level you could access if you looked at the ceiling while standing on the sun on the floor, or am I missing something?
