I finally managed to buy Link's Awakening with the art book and steel box for a reasonable price. The price I paid was 899 sek, which converts to โฌ84, ยฃ72 or $93. This package is not worth more, I'm glad I was finally able to buy it, because before they asked for 1499 sek, which converts to โฌ140, ยฃ121 or $155, which I would never pay. An art book is not worth that much.
I think adding 50 % to the price for a collector's edition is fair. Anything above that is either a scam, or they went overboard with that it contains. I'm not the only one who has realized this, because I often see very expensive collector's editions remain unsold. I also have noticed the companies who make them has started to lean on the fear of losing out, by limiting the amount of copies. If a game costs 60 is a certain currency, the collector's edition shouldn't be more than 90 of the same currency.
@Agriculture Your lucky, I think you only spent ยฃ2 more than what it cost in the UK. I do think the Links awakening collector's edition was over priced but I couldn't help myself. I think the whole game was a bit overpriced considering how buggy it is.
Not sure how I feel about collectors editions in general though. Nintendo's are always going to sell out, just because of the quality of them even if they don't offer much but for other games, generally I just don't care that much for a game to buy a CE or LE of it. I think the only two I've bought lately were links awakening and smash Bros and I don't even like smash Bros that much. I did buy the red dead 2 actually that had extra single player content. I also wish I bought the special edition of crash team racing but how could I know id want the extra content until I've played the game! Now it's locked out for me unless I buy the game again.
But yeah, generally I think they are way overpriced for what you get and the short supply inevitably leads to scalping which sucks.
