One son got the switch snd the other the switch lite. We are wondering can they both play the same game using one cartridge and if so how could this be done.... This evening one boy added the other as a friend to try play minecraft dungeons but they couldn't do multiplayer... I am wondering do we need to set up in a different way. We would really appreciate help with this as we thought the switch snd switch lite could link together to play together.

@Sharr In that case, I believe you may need one cartridge per console if two consoles both want to play Minecraft online together. A game can only be played when the cartridge is inserted.

If you're wondering if buying digital would allow you to share a game, that's not really the case, and that's a whole can of worms I don't want to get into, because there's no one easy answer.

Anyone that is new to this forum, I make a habbit of mentioning Nintendo's support site is usually the best resource, because most people that join here aren't aware of how useful it is.

On 3ds some games let you link two systems using one cartridge and a feature called download play. The switch does not have this feature so you need each system to have its own copy of the game to play between two systems. Also not every game even allows two systems to play with or against each other via link even with two copies of the game. Some only allow local multiplayer on one system, while others will let you play online but you have to have a nso subscription while a few games like mario kart, splatoon, mario tennis aces, mario and sonic at the Olympic games, grid, trine, overcooked 2, Diablo, sniper elite, smash Bros, arms, fifa, nba2k, torchlight 2, marvel ultimate alliance 3, gear club 2, trivia pursuit, Tetris 99, amung us, Rayman, let's you play local wireless play between multiple systems as long as each have a copy of the game.
