Hi there,
I just wondered if anyone could let me know if it's possible to play the labo games with just two joy cons?
Mainly the bike, or vehicle ones?

Thanks!

Thanks! Ah I suppose you couldn't use it docked though and would need it sat on your lap

Thanks for your help

The Adventure Mode in the Vehicle Kit can be played without the cardboard items, if you use the "Custom Controls" feature from the Garage Mode. there's some templates in it, but you might need to program some adjustments. I built one for handheld mode that uses gyro in the system to move left/right and accelerate/decelerate.

@mrjelly No problem. Here's the video that's in the software itself, to give you an idea.

Ah there's so little online about this so if anyone has it and knows
What do you have to do to get to custom control mode
Can you have it all buttons and analogue sticks driving around and saved so you don't have to set it up everything?

Thanks for your help!

Hello,
Sorry if this is not right for resurrecting this old thread but as there was so little info out there for completeness:
Every mode in toy-con 03 vehicle kit is fully playable without the cardboard and it's so fun!
It takes time to configure the controls but this is part of the fun.
You need the second 'manhole' called custom controls in discovery section.
You need to watch a few of the discovery bits.
The worst it gets is having to sit through a few build videos but there is so much in that games I'd recommend with or without cardboard.

Multiplayer is also fully possible

Brilliant, thanks

This goes for handheld and wireless docked

@mrjelly Glad you got it working! I liked Adventure Mode, there’s lots to do and it’s quite relaxing.

Sorry for the resurrection - this thread seems to be the only place on the entire internet discussing this. @mrjelly do you know if it's possible to play the Variety and Robot kits without the cardboard?

Hello!
Short answer is no, those two do not have the all important 'joy-con garage custom controls' mode.
Vehicle and VR do (vehicle fully tested, I own it, VR theoretically would fully work handheld, docked etc)

However Variety has a chance that the bike mode would be playable simply by holding the joy cons and having the switch in tabletop mode (stand out)

There is nothing in the tutorial you can't just skip and need the cardboard so that will not be an issue. You should also (like vehicle) just get straight into gameplay without it stopping you saying 'please connect cardboard' or something. However Variety is untested as I don't have it yet.

thanks

@mrjelly Thanks for the answer! Unfortunately, I don't have enough space at home for all the cardboard. Might try the Vehicle kit, it looks fun even with the regular controllers.

Yeah that was my issue. But the vehicle adventure mode is really good fun, simple but good and is as fun to drive as it looks! Just don't expect to jump straight in, you need to spend a bit of time tweaking handheld and docked control schemes but these are all save-able and easy to load. And you can have some fun with it to. I'd like to do this with the VR set too.

Lol I don't mind resurrecting this I searched for somethin and this was closest I could find,
but does anyone have enough experience to know how to recreate any toycon without cardboard like using old metal or hard plastic laying around the house to kinda recycle it?

@Cinos-the-Artist
If i remembered, there was a Youtube video explained how to make a replacement of LABO cardboard from LEGO blocks.
It was look sturdy.
