Hey guys I have a question about my son's switch. The left joycon is drifting real bad and we have tried 2 different joycons but when I put them in my switch they are fine. The controllers are updated and calibrated. His right joycon was just fixed and for awhile he was playing it in his pro controller but didnt have joycons in it could this have done anything to it? Any suggestions to try and fix it would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Playing with the pro controller shouldn't have any impact on whether the joycons work. Are you saying they've stopped working entirely? Or they're just drifting? Drift is a mechanical problem on the hardware so won't be affected by using a pro controller at all.
To fix drift you either need to send it to Nintendo, replace the analog stick (replacements are very cheap on ebay), or clean it out as instructed here:
@Dezzy The joycons work perfect on my switch but when attached to his it drifts to the right real bad we tried 3 different joycons and all 3 drifted on his switch but not on mine. Just trying to find out if anyone know why this would happen. I mentioned playing with his pro controller I was just trying to give additional information to what might be wrong because if not having the joycons attached for months not sure if dirt or dust could have a factor. Thanks
Well that sounds quite unique. So far "drift" has entirely been down to a fault with the analog sticks, not down to the actual system itself. You could try restorying the console to factory settings and see if that makes a difference:
@Jeff1012 I had an issue recently where my cursor kept pushing to the right. I didn't try any other joy-cons, but it was quite odd and temperamental and I got the feeling it was more a bug in the system rather than a mechanical issue with the joy-con.
Think I detached and reattached them once or twice and it hasn't happened again.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
I have repaired 2 of my joy cons from drift. Bought a simple repair kit from Amazon for £10 and repaired them both. Mine were not in warranty so I had nothing to lose. There is a video on this site somewhere which helped me actually. Best of luck
