Topic: Is the switch the best value in gaming?

Hybrid console, fully portable. Multiple form factors from table top to Taito, deep library of games. We all know the Switch isn’t the most powerful console and in turn there are limitations to some of the games you can play BUT it can play played anywhere at anytime. I’m sure many gamers are taking note to an increase in their overall playtime as this is the most accessible “home” console ever released. Does the portability, which is essentially the key to its accessibility , make this the BEST value proposition on the market?

Let’s chop it up!

@Rainz it is the best console of this generation ( It is 3 years older than PS5 or xbox series S ) . but it still has not released games that are off the scale. Last console anyone did that was really good was gamecube. But the smaller games on switch are cheap and would score maybe 70% out of a 100 %. I do not think switch is great but these cheap games are not bad ( games on eshop I mean ). Only game's that have been released that are nearly 100% are balan wonderland and metroid dread ( I think ) although metroid dread had to many boss battles.the smaller games I am talking about are only a €1 ( around a 100 of them ) I do play fortnite alot which has the best and most season's of any battle royal game. Although I was looking at valorant which looks a bit better. I do play xbox series S, but I only bought it for the rare games, like, sea of thives ( which is not as good as fortnite ) also for battletoads and rare replay. I might buy ps5, but just because it is a massive console nearly as big as a 32 inch tv. It will not take much of your time for you to make up your mind as everything should be easily googled., if you are just getting back to into gaming and switch console is really cheap at the minute. Happy gaming1👍

Apparently some of the fans in the Switch run quite loud! 😂

You lost me at “100% are Balans Wonderland”…IMO Fortnite is not a differentiating title on the Switch…you can play that game on your phone lol. And let’s not even bother mentioning Balan Wonderworld….that game is an utter embarrassment from a Sega alumni. Dread is one the highest rated 2D side scrolling “metroidvanias” of this gen…it’s amongst one of many Switch exclusives. I didn’t even touch on Switch exclusives as no company has more successful exclusives titles than Nintendo. It’s a staple of IP that MS and Sony are still chasing to attain to this very day. In terms of price, exclusives and accessibility it’s not even close between the consoles right now, Switch is still the best value.

@Rainz
Yes, of course.
But I also combined with other consoles such as PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, Wii U, Wii, Gamecube as every consoles have their uniqueness.

You must be very far away, Rainz, so I hope you can hear me. The amount of fun I've had has been well worth the amount of money i've spent. So yeah. And I'm sure others would view value differently and try to quantify it with how powerful a system is etc etc...but that's a bit too grey and boring for me.

No. But what is value anyway? An Android phone with a ton of free to play garbage that might, however, occupy you for hundreds of hours is the best "value", it doesn't mean that it's something that I'd recommend to anyone.

In terms of quality and value intersecting I'd still probably say no - GamePass is incredible value and Sony often has great, deep, sales on Playstation on genuinely great games. A second hand PS4 or a XBox Series S (with GamePass) are probably the best value options.

However - as a proposition that provides very high quality games in a format that I'll actually personally play them the Switch is pretty much unbeatable. It could also be considered value in some ways when you consider that physical Nintendo games tend to rise in price over time. The initial investment is huge but if you look after your collection for a long time (or play, complete and then sell promptly) you effectively play the games for free (or even at a profit). Though this is also true of past Nintendo systems.

a PC is always the best value, because you can do way more with it than gaming. everybody needs a PC anyway. plus it has basically 100% backwards compatibility and you can do emulation on it. also: online is free.

@Rainz The Switch is amazing, it has wonderful games, it is a hybrid BUT the prices of its games are waaay to high compared to the competition.

After 3-4 months the Sony exclusives (for example) drop in price but I still see Breath of the Wild selling at full price in many places.

The Switch is more expensive than the rest.

Keep in mind that this opinion comes from a person that buys physical games 99% of the time!

Consoles and handhelds are easier to play than PC.

what is that suppose to mean?

@lolwhatno well you have to buy new consoles, too, at some point?? will you still play the switch in 3 years? there will probably be a new nintendo console by then.

it is so funny to see that people still have these weird opinions about pc gaming. a really strange bias towards it that has no ground.

I just insert the disc or cartridge to play consoles or handhelds, no need to worry about specs compatibility, unlike PC.

@Anti-Matter well no. sadly modern consoles lost this advantage. you need to install and wait for patches. even with cartridges on the switch, many games arent complete and you have to download the rest.

with a decent PC and considering how well games these days are adjustable in terms of performance, i don't see why you should do more than taking 5 seconds to check the system requirements once.

again really weird bias towards PC gaming. you guys are stuck in the 90s or 2000s at best

I still do not like the appeal from PC gaming.
I stick on consoles and handhelds for video gaming, no PC gaming at all.
Yes, I like the mindset of 90's or 2000's, I'm still dinosaur.

I’m across the pond but can hear your text loud and clear lol! Value is going to vary from person to person , I agree I’ve truly enjoyed the Switch so far, obviously Nintendo gaming does come with its limits however it’s hard to pass up a console that allows this amount of freedom
and ease to playing the games we love. I’m mainly a Nintendo and Xbox gamer…both are great consoles however as we know one is tethered to the TV! Of course there’s more power and all that but the lack of portability makes standard home consoles seem archaic compared to Switch. I feel Switch is still very much plug and play whereas the others the others require more investment in online and memory storage space. If u own a PS5 you’ll need a separate room just to fit that system in ur house lol

@Anti-Matter

Pairing Nintendo with others consoles definitely covers all your bases, but as a gamer the Switch still offers the most accessibility, it’s a separate measure of value but it’s a major one!
