How would a Battle Royal even work in Splatoon. I'd say if they implement a Team Deathmatch or Free For All (where kills matter), would already surprise me.
@Budda I mean the Fortnite formula could be adapted to Splatoon. It wouldn't be terribly unique or original, but that could work. Regardless, anything that could work on a larger map would be a nice evolution of the formula. Splatoon practically feels like it's made for larger sandbox type maps because of how easily you can traverse the environment by swimming up ink.
@Bolt_Strike
I know what you mean. But you know that there is ink with a colour for each team? That's the main concept of the game. For a Battle Royal, should they get all the same colour or all different? Same colour would kill the concept. And different colours would be too overwhelming.
Splatoon has already good modes that work 4v4. I'm looking forward what new mode Splatoon 3 brings with the concept of the game in mind.
My larger complaint with Splatoon is that the games don't seem to have evolved much. I was hoping that with 3 being on the Switch they'd do something very different, especially in terms of working with larger maps like having large arenas suitable for Battle Royales or large, open worlds for the story, but neither seem to be happening. I think the gameplay is starting to get a bit stale and if not in 3, they'll definitely need to do something fresh in 4 because the games are starting to feel a bit rehashy and formulaic.
I like how ''something fresh'' now equals to just larger and more. That's the reason why we've ended up with these stupidly large open world games.
Salmon Run was a great addition to 2, and I've played that almost exclusively. If they can come up with another new mode like that, I'm all set.
@Octane I'd love a new salmon run mode or maybe even add a zombie style mode.
I honestly don't get why people want an open world Splatoon game it wouldn't even work because the whole concept of Splatoon is swimming in ink and unless you want to be constantly shooting everywhere in order to even explore it would be extremely painful/ boring as an open world game.

I have some concerns about Splatoon 3 not being as exciting as it could be, but I 1000% agree with this sentiment in general.
