I understand your point but tell me, if the next system would be launched in 3 years and the line up is made of Mario Kart 8 giga deluxe edition, Splatoon 2 alpha prime +, Super Mega Mario Odyssey etc... Are you gonna buy them again and again ?

Do you think that it's abnormal to play NEW GAMES on you new system ?

A worst case scenario hypothetical, huh?

If the next Nintendo console doesn't offer anything interesting or novel in terms of hardware or software then, no, I probably won't buy it. But I don't see that happening.

@Cobalt I still have my Wii U and guess what, I don't mind the ports in the slightest, and actually am hoping for more.

Inside was a NEW GAME for me.
Rayman Legends is a NEW GAME for me.
Ys VIII is a NEW GAME for me.

So, again, relative

Couldn't agree more. There have been plenty of Switch games released this year so far, not to mention all the games released last year I'm still catching up on. At the end of June we got Ys, Wolf2 and Crash in a matter of days. Jump ahead to July, we've had Captain Toad, Shining Resonance, Mega Man X collection and Octopath Traveller.

The only time I haven't been buying games are first half of 2018, but after that I have TOO many games in my backlog.

*Note that even though I don't have Wii U, the only port I consider buying is probably Xenoblade series and Tokyo Mirage Session... that's literally 3 games only for Wii U, compared to my list of games for Switch.

Just for this year, I'm getting games like, Ys8, Shining Resonance, Octopath, Little Dragon's Cafe, Xenoblade 2 DLC (? I guess this doesn't count, but it'll be my september's), The World Ends With You, Starlink, Let's Go Eevee, and if it's still in 2018, Tales of Vesperia.

I don't even touch the Wii U games port! Not Bayo or Donkey Kong! So telling me that Wii U has better list of games? Yeah it's literally a no since I also need a TV for Wii U lol.

Also for the resting on its laurels... Idk, I like Daemon x Machina for next year for sure though. That game looks amaziiing.

@Therad You mean the 3DS? Ok but the new one shouldn't be a switch replacement but more of a entry tier portable no? Seems to me like to lines of hardware and therefore two different lineup... Also I'm not so sure about the new portable not being the switch, because previous portable exclusive are now scheduled for the Switch (Pokemon and Fire Emblem main series are what I have in mind...)

We can't be sure what the next portable will be or if they scrap that line. But I think they want an entry level hardware, something a bit cheaper than the switch and the 3ds is 8 years old by next spring and sales have started to go down significantly.

Nintendo seems to have cleaned up their dev tools and are using modern technology. Unless they are stupid, they should keep those and use the same for the handheld.

Just like apple and Google are providing dev platforms for their entire iOS and android line, regardless if it is phone, tablet, smartwatch or tethered to a TV.

I think it's rather resting on its yannies.

Seriously internet, the fact that nobody made this (absolutely horrible) joke disappoints me.

I didn't read everything aswell, but I kind of hate this general debate. Nobody is privileged to get the kinds of game they love all the time and as often as they maybe wish. Nintendo is not your grandmother always cooking you favorite meal. They cook for others too. And even if you do not like every game they put out and some of them even were ports of the previous console nobody owned, there is still enough to play.
I have quite a backlog on the system and I had one on Wii U and 3DS aswell. And I wasn't interested in so many games: Doom, Kirby, Wolfenstein, Hyrule Warriors, Octo Expansion, all the JRPGs except XC2 and I would maybe be interested in Ys, but have too much to play already.
All those complaints make the gaming scene look like a spoiled brat. Seriously, do you have more hours in the day than I have? I usually have the impression there are quite many on here with a job and a family or I don't know .... stuff to do in life....friends....other hobbies....
People sometimes act like the world is bound to end soon, because Nintendo does not release enough games.

And I don't think it is resting on its laurels at all. They really showed last year that they still can reinvent themselves (BOTW, Odyssey, Arms, Snipperclips and this year Labo). And as someone mentioned before: They always have announcements up their sleeve.
But you also got to bear in mind that they are a major company that isn't as flexible and has to plan their ressources carfully. It would have been stupid to put everything in Switch-development as it could have failed as much as the Wii U, so of course they still made 3DS-games. But after all it was enough they invested, wasn't it? The Switch isn't a huge success for nothing.
I think people tend to underestimate the amount of thought people that work in businesses or politics put into their actions.

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

@Tiefseemiez

Nintendo can be happy to have consumers like you. ^^

For me, it's like you're a boss in a company and there is an employee who fails to comply with the rules, who makes several mistakes etc... And you, as a leader you're looking for excuses to justify his mistakes.

We, players, are kind of the bosses of Nintendo. I know when I say it like that it sounds stupid but take a minute :

_Nintendo is working to make games, we're gonna pay them to buy what they have produced.
_Employees are working to make tasks, the boss is gonna pay them to buy what they have produced.
It's the same idea...

Without us(players), Nintendo is skrewed. It's us who give money to them.
I estimate that "my employee^^" hasn't done a good job because that's incredible after 17 months, I have only 1 Nintendo game (Xenoblade 2) on my Day 1 Switch.
This is not right...

You are absolutely right about that. But if there are still enough people buying the Switch and its games, even though some people complain in the forums, maybe those products simply weren't for you.
Sure Nintendo doesn't do everything perfectly. But for sure they are also aware that they need to please their customers. Thats how businesses work.

@skywake
Thank you.

If you're going to create special rules for what counts and what doesn't at least apply them equally. I'd also note that I am not really applying these rules 100% equally. We're not really that close two two full years for the Switch and yet most of those other consoles I listed I counted 90%+ releases for the first two FULL years. Not that it matters much, other than Smash I doubt there will be many 90%+ releases before March next year.

I don't get the remake dismissal of let's go. It is obviously a new game. I can dismiss it just fine despite that!

Yes Nintendo are resting on their laurels, but only in terms of sytem features. The games are fine.

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.
