@Yorumi Consoles used to also have another edge against pcs: couch multiplayer. While online multiplayer is great, it will never replace playing games with friends on the couch.
It's too bad that ps4 and Xbox one is prioritizing less on that.
PC gaming is ugly, not worth the mess. I do miss when modern consoles were less PC-like (almost instant to play games, updates took a much shorter amount of time to complete, etc.) and it'll just get worse as time goes on.

PC gaming can be just as hassle free as console gaming if you buy a pre installed computer. In fact, I did do that around the same time I bought my Wii u. Guess which one was fastest and easiest to setup? Hint, it wasn't the one forcing me to create an avatar...
Consoles barely have a price advantage over PC if you factor in things like online subs, prices on games and your current PC.
If you want to upgrade your gaming rig to better performance, it is much cheaper to upgrade an existing gaming PC than buying an Xbox one x or PS4 pro.
I don't remember that I had to update back then. PS2 and NGC for sure I didn't, maybe on the 1st XBOX but I have no recollection at all... With the PS360, I clearly remember updates but before that era... ???
@Therad
I've been a long time fan of the PC gaming model vs the console model in general. The only reason I hold onto Nintendo is for their unique hardware and first party exclusives. But even I have to admit that unless you want 4K the PS4/XBOne offer extremely good value currently. The XBOne S in particular.
@Cobalt
I meant that the PS2/GC/XB era was the last time console gaming was significantly different to PC gaming. It was the last time the market wasn't dominated by multi-platform releases. It was the last time when PC gaming basically meant you were playing entirely different games. And yes, it was the last time console gaming was just a matter of dropping the disc in and loading the game. So basically I agree with you if this is what you meant, you just had a weird way of phrasing the same thing.
With that said I don't think updates and patches are a bad thing necessarily. I remember Wii games that had game breaking bugs which you just had to deal with. They probably lean on it a bit too much now but... it wasn't better before.

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
When it comes to hardware you're dealing with people who aren't really thinking rationally. If hardware performance is SO important why are they gaming on a console at all? Funny how hardware is only important up and until what a playstation can do and then it doesn't matter suddenly. That tells us it's not the hardware it's the marketing. You're not going to convince those people to buy your console just because it runs on the same hardware.
I can't speak for anyone else, and I don't really want to make the argument because I don't care that much, but for what it's worth... I personally don't care about portability. Let's say the Switch wasn't a handheld, but just a box with a controller, same specs, it would be a lot cheaper. Likewise, a box, same price, could've been a lot more powerful. So maybe it's that? You're paying for portability, whether you like it or not, even if you always use it as a home console.
I'm in a kind of same situation. I love Nintendo games and that's why I bought a Switch...to play Nintendo games first !
I know that the word is too strong but I'm kind of "punished" with that hardware because games have to run docked and portable. In my case I'm even "doubly punished" because of all the WiiU ports on the Switch... I already played all these games... :/
So yeah, it's like that but I have a feeling that a "new hardware" is coming... ^^
Better to say, a booster rather than saying a new hardware strictly speaking.
Completely agree. I play mainly docked and would’ve loved a traditional box. If I do use it outside the dock it’s still in my living room sitting on the sofa exactly like the Wii u. It’s great tho for those that take it out with them
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
@Cobalt Don't count on it, I can't see it happening. And considering they sell empty docks for €90, I don't think a dock with hardware is something you'd want to pay for.
No, seriously though - I also miss when consoles/PC were a bit more separate. Each had their own draw, almost completely different game selections, and highs/lows, but now everything is just kind of mashing together into a weird pulp.
Nowadays most stuff on PS/MS you know are going to end up on PC either simultaneously or, if you can be patient, within a year or so. OR some dude on the internet will basically (illegally) port the game to PC lol
@rallydefault I'm not even the biggest fan of RTS games, but it still does suck that RTS games have died down quite a lot.
Simulation games too like RollerCoaster Tycoon aren't what they used to be either. Those two genres (alongside first-person shooters) were what PC gaming REALLY gets better than any console ever.
That, and mods extends the life of pretty much any game that supports it.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
