I'm torn on buying a game digital or physical. I want physical so I can play the game for years and years to come, but if I lose it then it's over. If I happen to lose my phyiscal copy to a game on the Switch, could I rebuy another copy on either digital or physical and keep my progress?
Yes, save data is stored on the console, not the cartridge.
However if you lose your console, you will lose your saves unless you are subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online where your saves would be backed up into the cloud.

Yes, with a few rare exceptions of physical/digital having different titles. I believe SteamWorld Dig 2 cart shows up as a separate icon (and thus has separate save data) from the digital version. And of course, JP/Asian and other out-of-region physical versions like World of FF, FFX/X-2 HD, Okami HD, Chocobo’s Dungeon, Ace Attorney Trilogy, Mega Man X Collection 2, etc will have different icons than your native region digital version.
For 99% though, they’re the same.

He was pierced for our transgressions
