Wish this game had online mutliplayer so I could play it with my brother. But looks dope regardless, I pre-ordered it, looking forward to checking it out this week.
@C0NNERS
Just done the first level, it's beautiful. An absolute love-letter to some of my favourite films. The soundtrack is awesome too, perfect John Carpenter style moody synth score.
It's like someone reached directly into my brain, discovered that my perfect game would be a mashup of Blackthorn, Rolling Thunder and a selection of the coolest films ever made and then produced the bloody thing!
Loving it so far.
@MarioBrickLayer
Thanks for putting this on my radar, chap. I definitely owe you a pint for that.
@DevlinMandrake You totally nailed it - that's the best review I've read so far! 👏🤩 There's definitely a Warriors / Escape from New York vibe going on too.
@C0NNERS
Escape From New York is probably my favourite film ever, and the 3rd level boss is definitely a reference to it. Warriors is a stone-cold classic too.
Blackthorn (or Blackthorne, can't remember now) was an old SNES-era sidescroller like Huntdown. You played a marine commando who gets sucked into a dimensional portal (with his trusty shotgun, of course) and told you're the lost prince of an alien realm and need to shotgun your way to across the land to free your people. Great game, the shotgun definitely "felt" like a shotgun, and it has a system where you could hold UP on the D-Pad to hide in alcoves and avoid enemy fire.
I played it again recently (the Gameboy Advance port) and it's still a fantastic game. If you've got access to RetroPi (or any emulator) I'd strongly recommend giving it a go.
@DevlinMandrake The cover mechanic is brilliant - amazed it hasn't been used more often in run and gun games. Wondered where there came from - great knowledge! Sounds right up my street - will check it out 👌
@C0NNERS
Cool. It really is a cracker. I may have to dig out my GBA cartridge and give it another go.
By the way, did you find level 3 (Big Boy Bob) a complete and utter ball-ache? Those dogs, man. Doesn't help that I keep forgetting I can dash but I've just bound the dash button to the trigger which I find more convenient than the button.
@DevlinMandrake@C0NNERS you guys got me so hyped for this game. Hahaha. Made me wonder if you both own a stake in the company. About to boot mine up right now. Thanks for the great community feedback was an easy sell after reading this.
@DevlinMandrake Haha! Yes! Though to that point, it had been maybe a little too forgiving, so welcomed the kick in the jacobs level 3 provided. Oh and the voice work / catchphrases for Big Boy Bob... 😂👌
@C0NNERS
Agreed, it was a decent difficulty boost. And yeah, Big Boy BoB was brilliant. A cross between the fat dude Plissken fights in Escape From New York and Macho Man Randy Savage.
"Oooooh YEAH!"
Not played Hard Corps, just had a look at it though and it seems right up my street. I may have to see if I can get a 2nd-hand copy for my 360. Thanks for the tip.
Does anyone know how the local co-op works? if one player loses all their lives can they rejoin or do they have to wait until the other player dies? I like how co-op works in River City Girls, a player can rejoin quickly or be revived by the other player. Thanks for any info
I give up, half way through on easy mode and the boss is the most ridiculously hard boss I have ever played in any game, this is a nightmare and stressful
