Topic: How big is your backlog?

Hello to everyone!

As it turns out, i am kind of an impulsive buyer and always searching for offers and deals to buy new Switch games. I am 30 years old, and with a full time job and a baby, I have 1-2 hours at most each day to devote to gaming. So, out of the ~50 Switch games I own, my backlog contains about 35 games, with some of the most significant being:

  • Moonlighter
  • Breath of the Wild
  • Luigi's Mansion 3
  • Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
  • Hollow Knight
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps
  • Slay the Spire
  • Dead Cells
  • Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition
  • Enter the Gungeon

So, i wanted to get an idea of how many games each of you has in his / her backlog, to know if I am on the ''big backlog'' side or not. Discuss away!

I have a backlog of about 100+ games. Im 40 and i can play 2 times in a week. Probably i will end play them all by the end of 2031. ( if i dont buy more...almost impossible) Im also optimistic to live that long.

Btw, in the spare time i like to come here trolling Sony players. Im a mature boy.

Howdy,

Comparatively that's tiny, I could only wish mine was that small XD
On Switch alone it's about 80 physicals not played.
While in comparison to you I do have more time than you to play but it isn't a great deal more.

I have realised over time though (an maybe you have this too going by your opening paragraph) that the chase or the find of a game at a great price is all part of the fun, sure you want to limit it to what truly interests you to play but at the same point the way the Switch market is, you can't exactly go wrong as you could sell it on for close what you payed.
Then it arriving, the owning, seeing it on your shelf (totally refreshing yourself of some of the games you have when looking at the shelves) all adds up, collecting is fun ultimately but you just have to be careful to not outspend your means, if you're not though, I see no problems.

One of my favourite sentiments to it that I read not long back, was treating it as if it's your own personal library to dip into whenever you want, to have exactly the experience you are craving at the time.

A personal note I have discovered too, if for whatever reason you fancy or are imagining playing a certain game, just go ahead and play it. Sure you are 'dropping' what you are currently playing but I have found I have enjoyed the game I had a hankering for far more than I ever would have if I picked it up when that feeling had passed.

Dead Cells and Enter the Gungeon are tremendous games for short pick up and play sessions.

I don't have much of a backlog on Switch thankfully: off the top of my head it's just Ni no Kuni, Hades, Horace, Castlevania Anniversary Collection and various indie games I got for free from an eShop promotion. Then on 3DS I've got about 15-20 unplayed games, most of which are RPGs so those will take me a while. On PC I've got an absolutely massive backlog but that's mostly from Humble bundles (and the enormous indie bundle from itch.io last year); I think the only PC games I paid for individually that I've yet to play are Batman Arkham Asylum and the original Tomb Raider.

Of course, if you take into account all the games I want to play but don't own yet, it would be well into the hundreds, if not thousands...

I feel so guilty if I buy games and don't play them, that I don't build up a backlog. I only buy when I'm ready to move onto a new game.

Although, I've kept previous consoles and the select game's I've bought.
Gamecube - 6 games.
Ps2 - 15 games.
New 3ds - 6 games.
My brother still has the NES - mario bros. 1,2,3.

If I end up not liking, or hating, a Switch digital purchase, I can't stand to see it's game tile, and delete the game.

Wow, you definitely have a bigger backlog than me

You are right though, hunting for new offers is a big part of the enjoyment I get from gaming nowadays, which seems weird considering how it may take even years before I get the chance to play a game I have bought.

Unlike you though, I mostly buy digital, for 3 main reasons:

  • Much better deals on the eshop, especially if you have accounts in countries such as Mexico and Brazil
  • I don't have a lot of space where I live, so storing and keeping safe the physical games is an issue
  • My lazy ass doesn't want to change cartridges

I did some math, and given that on my first year of owning a Switch I spent about 650 hours gaming, I currently have enough games on the backlog for the next two years. So, maybe I should slow down on the purchases for a little while...

Magician

I play everything I own for at least a little while. However, my completion rate is abysmal. Without considering my whole collection, I'd guess I've rolled the credits for maybe...5% of the games I own. From that perspective my backlog is....several hundred games deep.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,247 games (as of April 15th, 2024)

Counting steam and ps+ sub games? Too many to count.

Otherwise, between 5 - 25 games per system.

I'm not too worried about it. I figure if I play more games than I buy every year the issue will work itself out over time.

@Magician I'm kinda the opposite. There are a ton of games I've never tried in my collection, but I go out of my way to complete games as fully as possible these days.

Well, ive got 181 games on my Switch and over 100 on my Vita and counting PS4, Xbox Series S and PC (about 900 alone, Epic Store doesn't help giving me free games all the time) it's probably over a 1000 so considering i'm 50 i don't think i'll live long enough to play them all!

Several hundred. However I have resolved to focus on one system this year. I probably shouldn’t have made it the system I am actively buying games on though... as the beast seems to keep growing rather than shrinking. I’m also trying to play shorter games first rather than my RPGs. I can blitz through action games but RPGs take months to years. Still haven’t beaten a route in Three Houses despite loving that game.

I did step away from animal crossing to free up time too. Put monster hunter down out of frustration.

I'm getting REALLY close to finishing my backlog. I have 8 games on my switch I need to finish

  • Doom Eternal
  • Final Fantasy X-2
  • Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light
  • Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus
  • Super Kirby Clash
  • Super Mario 3D All-Stars (all 3 games are still unfinished)

Then on PC I only have Persona 4 that I need to finish!

Add me on switch if you like Xenoblade :)

Hmmm. My backlog seems huge at first, but to be fair, quite a few of the games on the list are technically ports/remasters of games I have beaten; for example, heck knows how many copies of Sonic 1 I own, but I have beaten the game, despite not always marking it down in my backlog. PS4 is where the bulk of my backlog is at right now; at least 100 or so games to play still. Going to be starting Dragon Quest Builders 2 soon to continue making my dent into the backlog.

Signature, huh? Where do I sign?

..Too many to count. I rarely play a game from start to finish before moving on to another one. Either something new that interests me comes out or I get bored with a certain part and move to something else.

By now I probably own about 1100 physical games, give or take, split across N64, GameCube, GBA, DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, Switch, Xbox, Xbox360, XB1, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PSVita. I guess it becomes something like 1500+ games when including all the digital purchases, mini consoles and collections.

Of those, I doubt I've beaten 100. And I never consider a game done until it's at least beaten. And I like to replay games too as and when the mood takes me. But games aren't tasks, they are there to play, not to be something you have to tick off and forget about.

On the Switch, I haven't touched Gal Gun 2, Bayonetta 2, Hades and Bug Fables, and there are games like New Pokemon Snap, Ring Fit Adventure, Celeste and Paper Mario: The Origami King that I haven't beaten. In terms of untouched games, it's not too bad. I have more games not yet played for the Nintendo DS, and that selection is likely to grow because I want to have more of that library of games available for me to experience when the time comes. The DS is over 10 games I think. For the 3DS, I was clear until this year when I added Majora's Mask 3D, Fantasy Life, Ever Oasis and Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash. Eventually, I would like to at least play all of the games I've gotten especially on the DS, but when I'm ready. Time is limited, I have to be in the mood to play any particular game, new or old, otherwise it's a waste.
