On eshop, Switch 2 version of Hogwarts Legacy is discounted to $10 if you already own Hogwarts Legacy - is this true? I saw a post on reddit, and I can confirm I already own Hogwarts and my eshop shows Hogwarts discounted for $10 (deluxe $15), but I don't have a trusted source confirming that that's why it's discounted on my eshop. If it was on sale, I guess it would have a "sale ends" date, but it doesn't have a sale ends date. So maybe it's true.
Although, since it's a switch 2 game, and it's "Not Supported" on switch 1, you don't have an option to purchase it to make use of the discounted price.
@WoomyNNYes yes - I went online, logged into my account via the computer, and on the SW2 page - Hogwarts Legacy is there. It has the $10 upgrade option (bought the game on sales during the December sale) - and was able to purchase.
I also preordered the $10 upgrade. I do my Switch 2 preorders via the eShop website.
And if you don’t own the NSW1 version, it’s on sale for like $17. Meaning you could buy the game and the NSW2 upgrade for less than $30 after tax. What makes it even more impressive is the fact it’s not really a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in the traditional sense, because it’s not based on the original NSW1 version. It was programmed ground up for Switch 2 using the PS4 version as the base to build from.

With the NSW1 game on sale for $17.99 and the NSW2 upgrade only costing $9.99, and the difference in fidelity being absolutely immense, I think game just became the #2 must-own launch title behind Mario Kart World. Cyberpunk 2077 is up there too, though.

Ahhh, thanks. Just bought the hogwarts switch 2 version for 10 dollarydoos.
@Lazz@JaxonH I have 65 hours in the switch version of Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe and I've never used anything in the dlc so that's why I skipped the deluxe for switch 2. Have you guys ever used anything in the dlc?
@WoomyNNYes I have only played it for a few minutes. I bought it with the hope that we’d see a SW2 version option, so I’ll be restarting the game once my new switch arrives. That’s why I’m pumped about the upgrade option.
@WoomyNNYes nice!! I wish I went with the $15 option, but oh well - very happy about this!
Actually! After, or while making my purchase of Hogwarts for switch 2, it's actually a "pre order" on nintendo's site, there was text below the purchase at some point that said I can still cancel this preorder for HL for switch 2 if I cancel before I'm charged. Nintendo doesn't charge for this eshop preorder until like the week of the game launch or june 5.
So, if you do want the deluxe version, you could cancel the switch standard version of Hogwarts (switch 2)preorder you just placed on eshop/nintendo.com, and then purchase the deluxe version.
@WoomyNNYes Dude, amazing - thank you! I had no idea that I could cancel a pre-order (the Nintendo site does not make this obvious). I just upgraded to the deluxe edition for $15. Don't really care if I ever use the DLC, I'm happy to support the publisher with a friendly upgrade path!
I've only just now realized that it's not a Switch 2 upgrade in the same sense as with the Zelda games, etc- it's literally a new separate version, they're just offering a discount that brings it down to a similar price to the upgrade passes'.
It makes sense in hindsight. But I assume this means the save file won't carry over?
@Eel I was thinking HL save data won't carry over to the switch 2 version of HL, but after a google search, it appears it will. (although I'm still skeptical that there's conflation of the S1 and S2 versions of the game)
Assuming this isn't ambiguous, this support page says save data will transfer to the swtich 2 version of the game. Although specific directions for switch 2 aren't expected until closer to switch 2 launch.
In the case you're pro-trans people and considering whether you should buy this game, you should know that Rowling has decided to create and fund an anti-trans organisation with her own money:
So the royalties she gets from this game (and from other Harry Potter products, obviously) will most likely be partially used to propagate the anti-trans agenda. Obviously it's everyone's personal decision whether or not to boycott Potter, just wanted to let everyone know how about this in case they've missed the news.
