As someone who's been playing both classic Heretic and Hexen on PC, this comes as a surprise. Not only that, but this marks the first time Heretic comes out on consoles. During QuakeCon, Heretic + Hexen got revealed for Switch.
Heretic and Hexen are finally on Switch. Dunno if anyone else played these, I'm assuming Hexen since it did have an N64 port. I've been loving the original on PC, and I got this as a free update on PC. Maybe I might double dip to have it on Switch too.
Those of you who want the game physically, it's happening. I'm surprised Nintendo Life didn't report on the physical copy, given Time Extension is a sister site. Anyone on Nintendo Life, you might want to update the article or something given how many love their physical games.
@Sunsy I believe it was you and I that were talking about these games a few weeks ago. I was excited to here this as I never played Heretic before, heck I thought it was a sequel to Hexen lol. I use to play the N64 version of Hexen alot as a teenager in fact I enjoyed it way more then Doom but I prefer fantasy to Sci-fi so there's that. Hexen was on game that I would rent alot from my local video store. Definitely cant wait to try this remaster out once I finish Suikoden.

@Tasuki We did. Hope you enjoy Heretic, it plays more like Doom when compared to Hexen's switch puzzle based gameplay. I also been playing Hexen, albeit the original on PC. I did get this new version for free for owning the originals on GOG. Played a bit of Hexen on this remaster last night, and I like what they did. Especially adding FMV cutscenes for Hexen.
@Zuljaras Hope you enjoy it whenever that pre-order gets delivered. I played the originals via GOG, and I love both games.
@Eel Hexen is a first person game, it's like Doom with a fantasy theme. So is Heretic too. Hexen is more puzzle based. For example, flipping a switch in one level, will activate something in another level. For example, flipping a switch in the Guardian of Steel, will cause stairs to rise in the level Seven Portals. Heretic, is more like Doom. Shoot enemies, collect keys, open doors, find the exit.
@Sunsy I have the game on my Series X due to having Gamepass so will be checking them out there. I have yet to get the originals on GoG but I do have them wishlisted . You know how that goes though I bet so many good games to buy so little money lol.
Thats interesting though that Hexan is way more puzzled based then say Doom or Heretic. I kinda like that though adds a bit of variety. To be honest though I never noticed that when I played it on N64 but to be honest I only played Doom a few times on SNES before I played Hexen so there's that. I am debating though if I want to get a physical copy from LRG.

I saw the trailer. Have to say it interested me as I had the N64 game! I don't know if my affinity for it is because of it having 4 player co-op or not. I don't normally like FPS but that was the reason I had this one. Anything co-op interested me at the time. I remember not getting far though and it being quite hard!
I quite liked it back in the day but it was a fairly simple fps and the gameplay got repetitive even back then and soon got bored of it. It looks they have done an amazing job but nowadays I like more variety in the gameplay. I seem to remember in the past there were patches/hacks for games using this engine like Doom etc and you could do all sorts of funny stuff like have a huge amount of enemies on screen who often ended up fighting each other it was so funny. I'm old enough to have played these games when they first came out. I seem to remember I had a 486 DX66 at the time. You can also play it nowadays in a browser. That 486 DX66 was a beast at the time with amazing performance compared to Atari STs, Amigas etc but nowadays all that performance is so insanely low you probably have $2 aliexpress electronic toys with more performance. It's a nice portion of nostalgic gaming but perhaps you should try the browser version to see how it plays for you today before purchase.
I have wanted to play these games since the 90's. I did a actually play a few maps of Hexen on my laptop a couple of years ago, with mods that add modern lighting and voxel models. I loved what I played but since I prefer playing on the TV, I decided to wait in the hope it come to Switch. I was confident it would eventually. And now here we are. A two game pack by the 90's shooter port masters, with all the bells and whistles and a load of new content too. I'm going to hang off on buying it for a few more weeks though, till I'm back in the UK and have my Switch 2.
Some of my best hours spent on Switch has been playing Nightdive ports.
Being able to finally play through so many classic shooters that I've always wanted to play, looking and playing better than ever with motion control and HD Rumble, was just superb. I had played a few maps of the original Doom on my 32X back in the day but other than that, they were all entirely new experiences for me. I've played through Doom 1, 2, 64 and Quake 1 and 2 more than once... They're all so good that I'm not sure I even have a favourite, as they're all great in their own way. I expect I'll love Hexen just as much and possibly Heretic too.
Very welcome surprise. I immediately purchased. The almighty Nightdive have delivered once again!
While I really like Heretic, I've never cared much for Hexen. Like a lot of people, I found it overly confusing and would just give up in frustration. Apparently Nightdive has done work to help alleviate this problem. I'll be giving it a go soon and hopefully I will finally be able to complete it.
