You know that thing where you start seeing discolored pixels all over your screen? I noticed it while playing TOTK. I think the damn mother board is fried on my switch. I've been hearing some strange noises coming from my fan as well like it's about to crap out. I figured this would happen eventually. It is a launch model so that's just great. I wonder how much a repair job would cost if i sent it into Nintendo.
@Truegamer79 A used switch trade-in value is probably still pretty good. So, you could buy a new switch, transfer your stuff to that new switch, then trade-in your old switch for cash or store credit. (You need both switches on hand to do a transfer.) So, find out what you can get for you current switch to see if it's a good deal. I think someone at a gamestop would want to see your switch and turn it on to determine it's value.
I remember when V2 and OLED's came out, old switches werw worth $150+.
EDIT: Also note, if you do a transfer, only switch user profiles linked to a nintendo account can be transferred. The switch system won't allow transfers of switch user profiles that aren't linked to a nintendo account. (nintendo accounts are free, you just need an extra email address).
@Truegamer79 Regarding how much repair is, I can't help wonder if replacing the fan and cleaning out the dust (during the repair) would solve the issue. I don't know if there's logic to that? If you look up console repair, or retro console repair, I think chances are good someone may repair the Switch near you. eStarland in the DC area charges $35 to replace the fan - price reference: https://www.estarland.com/product-description/Repairs/Nintend...
(In my experience, their site phone number for repairs is outdated - they never answered my call so I ask a question. I only got a repair there once, because I dropped my game cube off while I visited my brother, he lives near there. That was during the pandemic, though. I don't know if they are better with phone calls now.)
I think you could also do it your self if you have the tools, get some thermal paste & repacement fan, - iFixit on youtube probably has a how-to video, even a recent Spawn Wave recently posted a switch maintanence how-to video.(recently posted = in the past 2-3 weeks)
I gave my launch switch to a friend last summer, and he replaced the fan on it. Said it ran good and quiet after that.
