I never realized it was actually coming out til today when I checked Steam's new releases. Not sure if I'll get it though. People who played it says it's pretty similar to FoMT and I loved that game.
I'm sure there's a Reddit or Tumblr blog where people can discuss how this (unreleased game) is garbage and not harvest moon.
You should see the Steam forums. It's filled with negativity over the visual style/graphics/whatever. It's sad how people are condemning the game without even having played it. People shouldn't judge games without trying it first, you know?
Also, I find it baffling how people are still seemingly upset that Natsume is continuing to use the HM brand. -Why- is this still a thing? Marvelous and Natsume left on a good note. They're not upset or angry over the break up, yet people keep saying the opposite and stirring up a pot that isn't even there. If they're not upset, why aren't these 'fans?' Honestly, the fans can act worse than the trolls sometimes.
Oh it came out yesterday actually! I got it cheapy cheap because the game is actually being sold for about 15 dollars in my country, compared to the 30 dollars in the US.
I've been playing it, and it's very good. No terraforming, but at least there's many different fields with different soil qualities and heights to plant thing on (not sure if height is still a factor though!). The mine is a great return to form, and the island is relatively large and with tons of things to unlock and do.
And yeah, you might've seen me around their forums if you're reading them. It's really, like... Sad? I don't know, it just makes my head hurt how so many people can hate this game so much. It really makes no sense to me.
Oh, you've played it? You're on the Steam forums? Who are you there? Wanna be um, Steam buddies or something? My link is http://steamcommunity.com/id/freelance_ (username FreelanceWolf) and I have an avatar of one of the Dobermans from Oliver & Company.
The game is worth $30 then? Does it have alpacas or llamas? The game has different heights for planting?
(or limit the options of the coin to "buy Harvest Moon" and "no, wait").
To be honest I tried to be a nice stalker and buy the game for you (since it's so cheap here anyway), but it didn't let me due to different countries and stuff.
D&D always sounded fun to play but I don't have the friends or any free time to play for hours.
And it was nice of you to want to buy for me, but yeah, Steam doesn't let you gift to ppl in other countries if the exchange rate is too far apart or something. I can gift to ppl in the US fine, although I've never gifting to anyone outside of NA. It costs $30 CAD for me.
I got bored so I recoded myself playing for one in-game day. Then I immediately regretted doing this in my tablet because uploading it to YouTube took an ungodly amount of time and tablets aren't meant to stay on for a whole night.
Anyway, I noticed many people playing this in YouTube didn't really know how to play properly. They seem to think it is meant to be played like Stardew Valley
Can you elaborate further with your Stardew comment? Since Stardew copies HM a lot, I'm not sure how it could be played differently than HM.
I am sad terraforming is gone, but it seems to be a feature not many people wanted in HM. It's funny how people are still calling it 'like Minecraft' when it clearly isn't much like Minecraft. That's what happens when you judge something based on snippets of screenshots, etc. Making my own land was awesome IMO.
It seems the Steam forums died down sooner than I thought. The newest threads are about the game and not complaining.
Anyway, I watched your video, although I had to fast forward the mine part. Watching you hoe every square inch of a mine was boring. Isn't there any upgrade to hoe more squares at once?
I went to another HM video on YT and everyone's ragging on the graphics. Only one person actually wanted to play it. It's sad how literally every gamer these days are graphic elitists (literally that's the only thing they are complaining about) and don't have an open mind. You miss out on a ton of good games if all you care about are graphics.
Oh yeah, I desperately need the hoe upgrade... I needed Iron Ore to progress in the story, and started in the lowest floors because it's common there. But no luck. I actually planed to go on for longer... But figured it would be a bad idea for a video.
Stardew Valley uses a combination of keyboard and mouse controls. You move with WASD, and do things with the mouse. For example, you go to your crops with the wasd keys and then proceed to click around to water them, the icon that shows the area you will affect follows the mouse. You can't affect things that are out of your character's reach, you need to move closer to them.
This game offers both keyboard/controller and mouse/touch controls, but they're more individual methods than part of the same scheme.
They can be used in conjuction, but playing like you do in Stardew Valley makes it look like the game is clunkier than it is, for starters the icon that shows the area you will affect will always appear right in front of your character, because it's meant to be used as a guide for when the player is not using the mouse.
In this one, clicking on any place of the map will lead the character there, and they will do whatever they can do, be it till, sow, water, chop, harvest, talk, etc.
I notice many youtubers go to a spot, align their characters perfectly so their "area of effect" icon is exactly above what they want to affect and then move the mouse over to it and click. They also all do the basic stuff (harvest, sow seeds, fertilize) one by one, when you can hold the button to increase the area of effect from 1 to 9.
Also they seem to believe the "virtual analog stick" that appears in the screen when you use the mouse to move is a leftover from the mobile game, when it's actually a new feature for this one.
I vastly prefer to play using the touch screen (mouse), but the keyboard is a nice solution too. But only after customizing the keys. The default settings are bizarre.
Oh that's what you mean. I thought you meant gameplay-wise, and I thought it was very odd since Stardew basically has you working on your farm and then visiting the villagers like pretty much every HM game in existence. Well the game seems fun enough.
