Forgive me for giving this (terribly inactive) thread a little bump!
How are people finding the game so far? Been very busy so I only just got through the prologue and opening of chapter 1, little bit in your face so far, at least compared to the older titles, but the presence of the Kunihiko Aso Museum and setting in general has me intrigued. Wondering how deeply this is going to go into the backstory of the series.

Just finished this tonight. For anyone lurking or who might be on the fence I loved it.
You get a good sense of Suda's input in this and I think his influence probably helped freshen up the series after four entries. The background lore to the setting and events are also extremely well realised, you get a much better sense for the culture which underpins the events as well as mysterious indigenous origins of the rituals which kick off the plot. As it stands here is how I would rate the series:
2
4
5

Yep, still haven't played 3, sadly, was never able to track down a copy which is why I am selfishly hoping the next release is a compilation of the PS2 trilogy or at least of 3 in particular.
