So, where i may have got this all wrong is we only have 1 switch, but i thought we would need the family membership for all 3 profiles to play online globally. So we downloaded the family membership. I set up the kids in my family group. But their profiles will not play sports globally. Only mine will. Google has sent me round the bend. I cannot figure out where it's gone wrong. Surely all the profiles would just have an automatic ability to play online with friends and others anyway. Its all on the same switch.
Thank you in advance for pls saving my brain.

@Weina If you highlight the options in Mario Kart 8's main menu, you'll see Multiplayer allows up to 4 players. And Online Play only allows 1 or 2 player. So, two players is the max that can play online global races. While 4 player split screen is only playable offline.

I can understand your confusion, but that's how it works, and those are the software limitations.

Regarding what the NSO Family Plan grants you:
On your Switch home screen, the upper left corner shows an icon for each Switch User Profile. Each Switch user is a game save profile. Nintendo Switch Online subscription allows each of those switch user profiles (linked to a nintendo account) to access online play, cloud saves. If Switch user B unlocked all the Mario Kart 8 characters in their profile, they could open MK8 with their profile, and race online with the characters they unlocked.

When you play online with Switch User A, you'll only have access to the game progress User A has achieved.

Hopefully this helps your understanding.

Thank you so much for explaining this. I thought myself quite savvy...but this drove me to madness. Much appreciated 🙂
