I decided to order Doom via Amazon on Friday (it has been dispatched and should be with me tomorrow - I can't wait!). I have a PS4 Pro and a 4K TV, but the Nintendo Switch version seemed more appealing to me for some reason. Even though I game mostly in docked mode, it's sometimes nice to be able to carry on gaming in handheld mode if my wife is watching TV...or if I just feel like it. It's also nice to know I'm supporting Nintendo's console (to be honest, my PS4 Pro has hardly had a look-in since March!).
@Enoch72 that's awesome I've also preordered sky rim and xenoblade 2
I'm not sure about la noire as I've heard it's more like a movie then a game, as in not much gameplay?
Hope that's not the case?!
I thinks it's great when people like you know your gaming, and don't let less powerful consoles stop you, the fact u got a PS4 and 4K TV, it's restoring my faith that not all console / pic gamers are delusional lol
More gamers should think like you as we would get so may more games if they were supported as such.
I wasn't aware there was an argument to side against.
I simply said if he's not enjoying this version of the game maybe this version of the game isn't for him. Not quite understanding how you are "siding" with anyone.

@JaxonH - Not really saying there is a SIDE, per se, just that I see his point of view as to what would irk someone owning the Switch and Doom. Don't get me wrong, been enjoying the game thoroughly as of right now, but the idea I had to enjoy the higher levels may not work with Switch to its fullest.
So, I am downloading the update right now, because I couldn't start the game without it. Going to take hours. Downloads suck on my Internetz. Does anybody know if I can play other games while it's downloading, or do I have to just wait?

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
Yea, I mean, for this game to even be running on the Switch is truly a feat of engineering from the devs and they deserve all the props we can give them.
That being said, I don't know what you guys are drinking - the graphics are super muddy. The blur is insane at both short and long distances. Most textures aside from your hands and active weapon are blurred to the point where reading writing or anything in the environment hurts my eyes.
Of course, I'm saying all of this being spoiled and used to playing games like this on a super-stacked PC. For some of you guys who have only played on Nintendo consoles for the last while, I can see how this may be impressive. But for those of us who have played on the more powerful systems/PC, to say there is a noticeable difference here is the understatement of the year.
But again, I say all this having bought the game knowing full well this would be the case. For the portability in my life, it's worth the trade offs. And I think 3rd-party releases like this are important. I want to see more stuff like this coming to Switch, so I voted with my wallet to support a game that I really enjoy playing.
@Deathwalka
LA Noire is actually an open world game. The crux of the gameplay is investigations, and reading people's reactions when interrogating them (they used cutting edge motion capture to convey every little brow raising detail for the player to notice). But ya, there's plenty of game to play. It's just a different kind of game. Nothing really like it, actually. Ace Attorney examinations only with real actual body language to use as tells, blended with an open world chasing robbers and stuff. Quite unique.

@JaxonH damn that description has defo changed my mind! I was worried as I read a review which I shudnt go by that there's not much gameplay but that sound brilliant.
This is the best FPS experience you can get on handheld. By far. In fact, the game is so good I'd argue it's one of the best handheld experiences you can get, period. Right up there with Zelda and Mario. The game is that good. Well, maybe not quite that good, but it's up there. One of the absolute best games on Switch to date, that's for sure. And a much needed missing genre.

Know a guy. Says he won't buy DOOM because it doesn't have gyro, and claims he can only play with gyro.
Had a long talk... what it really boiled down to was fear. Fear that he would suck... fear of failure. I tried explaining to him I suck and if I can do it, anyone can... tried explaining we all once had to learn the left analog, and now we're all pros, and that if he just gave it a little time he'd get good with the right analog too... but... fear of failure can be a powerful influence.
Anyways, where is everyone? I think I'm on mission 3. It's a huge sprawling map, looking for 4 different hell spots (where the hearts are that you activate or whatever). Found 2 so far. Just got the plasma gun. And have a few upgrades. Been finding roughly half to 2/3 of the secrets so far.

@JaxonH I didn't play for too long as I was feeling tired but early impressions are good. I'm going to get stuck into it tomorrow. I think I'll play docked with the Pro, at least until I get the hang of it.
@JaxonH The gore nests, they're called. If you're searching for secrets I'd recommend the first two praetor token upgrades in navigation, the first one I think shows items on your map and the second gives a small rumble warning when near a secret.
Also beware the new enemy in that level, the Hell Knight. Big, speedy bruisers that stop at nothing to cave your skull in, they're really tough at that point.
@JaxonH totally agree Doom was one of if not the best game I played on PS4 and now it's right up there in my top 3 for Switch, bring on Wolfenstein 2 😃
I'm currently on level 5 but I have finished the game before so have found all the secrets so far, don't forget to look for the yellow levers to unlock a classic map on every level for a bit of old school Doom. Put all your praetor tokens into navigation early to make finding the secrets easier.
I've been having a hell (pun intended) of a good time with Doom. I don't get all the naysayers with all the talk of the framerate being subpar at 30fps honestly the game runs perfectly say for once or twice dropping audio (especially considering the hardware it's running on) or are they that shallow to think looks is everything.
DOOM came in at 16th place in the UK. That's in the All Formats Chart, I'll post the full information shortly in the Switch discussion thread.
Edit: I should point out it was at number 23 the previous week, and at number 29 the week before that, therefore it was already climbing. So actually, it remains to be seen what affect the Switch version has had really. Need that Individual Chart to tell us.
I'm hearing that it sold ~3,000-3,500 copies. There's around 300,000 Switch's in the UK. That would be about 1 in every 100 owners or 1% ownership.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'd love to know what the digital sales were as it quickly got to number 3 on the eshop but I have no basis for comparison as to how many they sell on there. Also worth noting that Amazon haven't had any stock over the weekend stating that it would be a couple of days before they had some in
Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.

Don’t know about digital sales, but so happy I got my physical copy. Surprisingly loving the multiplayer. Especially after a week of playing the broken CoDWW2 on xb1.
