@BradC40@carlos82 There was a Day one patch to the main game, not sure how important though. "The patch includes Multiplayer functionality, additional game fixes, and audio for supported languages other than English."
I don't know how much this means but I was watching Outside Xtra live stream Doom on the Switch yesterday and they had over 1000 views. Obviously some of that will be down to the channel itself but that also could say a lot for the interest in Doom being on Switch.

Confirms what I suspected- the resolution is quite low. That's my single biggest complaint with this port.
In handheld mode though, especially in tabletop, it looks excellent. I like the dual joycons for this game. Gonna use some KontrolFreek analog caps when they arrive.

@BradC40 I see the one you are referring to. Did you check the read write speeds on it? Could be an issue. Anyway.... downloaded the game and I love it. I mean we have nothing comparable to it in swirch right now. Campaign I am enjoying and really like online multiplayer. This is getting me ready for Hollow and Wolfenstein 2.
NintendoEverything posted some notes of the video, I'll post them below in a few minutes.
Digital Foundry is back with a new Switch technical analysis. Doom, which pushes the system to its max, is one very interesting title to look at.
It’s to be expected, but Doom’s visual quality has dropped on Switch. It has an adaptive resolution, with it usually sitting at around 600p when docked. The depth-of-field buffer and alpha effects appear to be rendered at a quarter resolution. Temporal anti-aliasing can make the action look a bit blurry on the big screen.
When Switch is in portable mode, the resolution may drop even further to roughly 576p or less. However, the smaller screen certainly helps.
The Switch version does sit below the PC version’s lowest settings. Texture quality has been reduced, for example. Lighting and ambient inclusion have been toned down on Switch as well, and screen space reflections are not present. Digital Foundry noticed color banding along with a low resolution for the HUD and menus.
One issue Doom has on Switch is frame pacing, which can lead to a sensation of stuttering during gameplay. However, it could be addressed in a patch. The frame rate may also drop when encountering enemies. It seems more enemies on screen leads to bigger drops, which isn’t surprising.
Doom actually manages to load more quickly than the PlayStation 4. A test from one of the game’s levels had the Switch version boot up about four seconds faster.
Some of these aspects may sound disappointing. However, Digital Foundry does believe that Doom is one of the most impressive portable games that can currently be played.

But I'm glad they did. We still have the console versions as an option, so it's not like this replaces those. It's just one additional option on the menu, one that caters to those who like playing games on the handhelds.
One of the most underserved genres on handheld is indeed the FPS. And I think that's simply because no handheld to date had all the necessary buttons. Vita came close. There was Resistance Burning Skies, Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified, Borderlands 2 and Killzone Mercenary. Resistance and CoD were absolutely horrible games- I played them and I actually got some enjoyment out of them but they weren't great. I think they've got Metacritic scores in like the 40s or something lol. Borderlands 2 was a good game, but it was just a horrible port. Killzone Mercenary, that game I think was the best handheld FPS to date... until now obviously.
This brings back those memories of Vita FPS, only this time it feels like the games are way way way better and they're actually good ports. Not without issues but, DOOM is totally playable. I can't wait for Wolfenstein 2 now. That'll be two rock solid FPS games on Switch... on handheld. I'll still have them on Xbox one but this will be for my handheld library.
DOOM is so good though, I am actually having to force myself not to play it. Because I want a good FPS to play when I'm out and about and can only play my handheld Switch. If I played it all now when I'm at home I won't have any game left for when I'm gone lol! I've been sitting here playing in a handheld mode in my recliner all morning. Like, just 10 more minutes. Just gonna get up through this section here. Just a little bit farther... [2 hours later]

@Nintendoforlife ok, I have mine digitally so wouldn't notice any difference but still good to know.
I've seen the recent Digital Foundry video but I can't agree too much. I'm enjoying just as much on the big screen as I did on the PS4 and can't say I've noticed any frame pacing issues and it's not as blurry as we're led to believe. All in all one of the best games for the Switch right now
Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.

Yeah I not knocking panic button. You have to put things into perspective. Switch is a tablet running on mobile hardware.
Sacrifices had to be made to get doom running on switch. Hopefully they can fix the frame pacing issues though.
I haven't noticed any issues with frame rate at all though. But I'm playing in handheld mode (which they said it was better in handheld) and I'm playing on easy difficulty (and they said it really only started having issues on the super hard difficulty).
I will probably play on my TV as well just because, if I'm home I might as well play on the TV. And someone might ask me why don't you just put in your copy of DOOM on Xbox One X, if you're going to be playing on the TV anyways? And that's a fair point I have considered but the problem is I can't then take my save file with me when I leave. I'd rather play it with tone down graphics on the TV and be able to transfer my game when I go. So that when I go to work on Monday I'm continuing where I left off, as opposed to replaying everything all over again.

Thanks for the advice/comments. May need to do the download for the patch & I can always do multi-player at the library.
No I didn't know to look at the read/write speeds of the card before buying. Thanks for the heads up. If I have issues I can always look for another deal on another one down the road.
I played Doom a lot on PC. playing right now with my friends switch, and IMO playing in handheld isnt that good for me compared to the TV. its so hard to see and target enemies that are at medium to long distance. I miss a lot compared to when i play on PC or in TV mode, Am i the only one having this problem?
I play it on a huge 1080p 16:9 LCD. The bigger the screen the better I can see enemies, secrets, details, and the more effectively I can aim. Haven't tried it in haldheld mode yet and doubt I'll do as long I have a better option to play this game.
It's a bit of a learning curve, but I can tell you now this is far, far easier to aim in handheld mode than previous FPS games (notably on Vita).
I'm doing pretty well actually. I remember having crazy problems trying to aim well in Killzone Mercenary and Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified. But in this game, the joycon joysticks are so much better than Vita sticks were. I don't think you're going to play it as well as you would on a big screen TV with a full pro controller, but with a little practice you'll get good enough. Tabletop mode is especially good. Was playing DOOM on my desk at work yesterday standing up with split Joycon. That was terrific.

@JaxonH hmmmm its just that it’s really jarring for me to be this imprecise in Doom when i can easily speed run on Ultra violence on PC. And i doubt i can adapt quickly enough on handheld since i only have the switch until monday.
@diwdiws
I would recommend adjusting the sensitivity to perfection, and turning the difficulty down a notch. It's always a little harder playing FPS on handheld, even on Switch (not nearly as hard as previous handheld FPS but it's still harder).
I also use strafing to my advantage a lot. And, I'd advise getting some KontrolFreek analog grips to extend the range of motion and surface area of the analogs. Playing in tabletop with the joycons detached also helps (in fact I prefer it, even when on the TV).
