Up into Tanked Up Trouble now. Not long left of this fantastic game. Don’t know whether to go straight into DKC2 or to break it up with a bit of Impossible Lair action first. Played neither but got both games on the switch.

@Oswinner
DKC and DKC2 are short enough that you can just go from one to the other if you want, and DKC2 feels different enough to me that I wouldn't get burned out. I envy you if you're booting up Impossible Lair for the first time. It's a fantastic game. I'm gonna replay it again very soon.

@Losermagnet Yeah, I kind of have a love-hate relationship with DK64. I have a ton of nostalgia for it and it had quite a bit of potential, but I didn't like the minigames that much and having to switch between Kongs via the Tag Barrel was pretty cumbersome in practice. Wouldn't mind seeing a new 3D DK game though, especially from the same dev team that made Super Mario Odyssey.

@MarioLover92 same for me. I love that it's an absurd collect-a-thon, but I think if I had to play it again I'd get tired of it quickly.

@Oswinner As rallydefault said, DKC2 is different enough, you can keep right on going. And in my own opinion, as good as DKC is, it's merely the warm-up for the superior sequel.

DKC1 is great but it feels quite basic and less structured to me compared to its sequels. It has some odd stuff like the animal token bonus levels that send you back to the last checkpoint afterwards, resulting in me trying to avoid the tokens

I’m pretty sure this DK door at Super Nintendo World means that Nintendo will celebrate DK’s Anniversary this year in some shape or form. Maybe even with a brand new title. What do you guys think?

@MarioLover92 I didn't mind the constant switching as much (it was mildly irritating, but not super annoying), but boy did the mini-games wear on my last nerve. They're so far removed from the normal gameplay and you can tell they were used as a substitute for actual platforming in the game which is almost non-existent. Any 3D DK game they plan to do in the future should strongly emphasize platforming as part of its gameplay, regardless of how they plan to do it.

I have the opposite opinion. I thought the minigames were fine, if largely unremarkable (though exhibit A if you want to showcase how much better Banjo Tooie is by comparison). Switching between Kongs was so tedious and annoying and not fun by the 2nd half of the game. And the sad reality is that outside of Lanky Kong, they're all too slow to be as fun as other 3d platformers like...Banjo.

The whole game is awkward when you remember the Banjo games exist and did everything better.

It's honestly really weird how this one 7/10 3d platformer from the N64 ended up being the basis of nearly every overhyped AAA game the past decade though. Too much content for the sake of it, lots of doing the same thing over and over, has nothing you couldn't get from a better game on the exact same system/s, collect pointless things.

This is so true. And if it were released today, it would have a season pass attached to it.

And I have finished Donkey Kong Country tonight. Whoa, that was a good ride. Great game.

To celebrate, I started playing through the game again, this time as far as I could, until I got my first game over.

Surprised how much I was flying through levels when just a few days ago some of these were causing me problems. Think I lost my first life on barrel cannon canyon and got to Tree Top Town with 5 or 6 lives to spare. Then I got extremely careless with some of my barrel blasts and saw my first game over screen. Booooo. I would love to be able to go through the whole game without a game over but I highly doubt I ever will. Anyone ever done it here?

Onto Donkey Kong Country 2 now. Excited, as this game seems universally praised as the best from the original trilogy...

I just realized the irony of saying this, when in fact, it is the only video game that came with an n64 expansion pak.

Are... we still talking about DK64?

I've never played Donkey Kong 64. Lack of N64 access back in the day aside, I'm not into games that are major collectathons. I think I'll be content with watching a playthrough at some point.

@Tyranexx I did try 64 on a emu and I thought it was about a 5/10 from what I played so far I mean I only played 3 levels, but it was a great game in all but with the fault of a 64 (I know how silly that sounds) I wish I had better control over DK but it was just hard,

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

@Snatcher From what footage I've seen of the game, DK64 doesn't look bad per se. It just appears that it controls kinda slow in many cases. And I'm not really into collecting a ton of stuff in games; it reignites completionist feelings, which only serve to stress me out. XD

Donkey Kong 64 gets way too much stick online. Yes, the frame rate lags and yes, there was no need for different coloured collectibles that can only be collected by a single Kong. However, it’s still a damn fine game. I rated it higher than Mario 64 but lower than the Banjo games back in the day.

Having said that, I love games that explore and that game had exploring in abundance.

Just thinking that a 3D Donkey Kong Platformer using the Super Mario 3D World engine could be amazing. The trapeze are already like swinging on ropes and some of the pipes that shoot you up work like barrels. The multiple characters and animals would fit in easily.

Just came to mind because the level Sprawling Savanna really gave me DK vibes!

So I started DKC2 last night. Played it for a good couple of hours or so. Got my first game over during the second boss. Will recommence today. Seems easier at the minute than the first game, but I hear it gets tougher later on? Also, I miss playing as Donkey Kong. Having fun still, remains to be seen if it pips the original...
