Hi all, I understand that these joycons can be very problematic. However, I’m hoping that someone has a resolution to our issue.

We have the normal Switch with red and blue controllers, but we can’t do handheld play with the joycons attached to the console as the console won’t recognise properly that the right hand joycon has been attached.

The red line down the right edge of the screen WILL show, the joycon will charge whilst connected to the console, but the console won’t recognise it as attached.

I have tried ‘forgetting’ the joycon and re-pairing and attempted to clean the contact points (however I’m not sure it achieved much, does anyone have good tips to do this?)

Does anyone else have any experience with this and know how to fix it?

Thanks, Tom.

@LabanT Nintendo support is a good resource for troubleshooting. You can use the search bar on their page to search topics. I'm familiar enough with the topic to know that they have a troubleshooting page for "joycon not recognized". If you search "joycon not recognized", you will also find two or more possibly relevant troubleshooting pages regarding joycons not responding.

Generally speaking, if you can't resolve something with Nintendo's support troubleshooting pages, then that's a very good indication that there's hardware failure somewhere, and repair or replacement may be required. I'm not sure that's your problem at the moment, I just want to point that out.
