was XP boosing with someone online earlier today for Mortal Kombat 1 and he mentioned something about playing the game in dock mode. I told him i only have the Switch Lite.

Plus I dont think docking accessories or whatever are compatible for the Switch Lite anyway or are there?

You can't dock a Switch Lite even if you own the dock. It doesn't even fit. Most accessories don't work with it, however you can actually connect a Joycon to it. I wouldn't think it affects the game in anyway. I haven't played the game though.

I was going to say, I don't think the Switch Lite has the output for that. That is what makes the Switch Lite a Switch Lite.

@XandertheWise When the Lite launched, I recall reviewers saying the Lite doesn't fit & connect with the dock. So, you can't even set the Lite in the dock so to charge it. I think the USB C plug placement on the Lite won't line up with the dock's plug.

Even if it did fit in the dock, the Switch Lite doesn't have the chip that handles video output, so it can't ever work with a dock.

As former Switch Lite owner unfortunately the Lite does not dock and as far as I know there is nothing that will make it do so. The only way to get dock experience is to pay $300. For a Switch or $350 for a OLED. I am sorry that there isn’t a better way.

Maybe a next gen Lite if one happens might get this option. But til then I suspect any future lite/mini will not Dock.

There is a way to dock a Switch Lite, but you're probably not going to like it.

Seriously, the Lite was designed to be a pure handheld, so getting rid of the video chip made a lot of sense from that perspective. It just sucks a bit for those who'd still want to make occasional use of docked mode but not enough to make buying the OG or OLED models worthwhile.

I think I'd read that the Switch Lite doesn't have the component in the motherboard necessary to output video, which would explain why any kind of "dock" wouldn't be viable. Surely it can be modded to output video, but why bother when there are other Switch models that can already do that and more?

@Matt_Barber : God, I hate clickbaiting trolls that post rubbish like that. Watching a projection of one's phone camera pointed at the Switch was so stupidly predictable. If people have $1000s to blow on their phones, they can cough up the extra $100 (if that) to buy a regular Switch rather than contend with all of the image anomalies/degradation and latency that this "solution" will provide (and you get a pair of Joy-Con out of it too).

But a portable monitor for regular Switch models is quite tempting for docked mode "on the go", though I can't see myself using it frequently enough to justify the expense (and space).

So docking or whatever only works if you have a regular Nintendo switch? ok cool

I never really understood the point of not including this feature on the lite. I mean, it makes sense to some degree. Product differentiation and it allows them to slightly reduce costs. But the reduction in costs has got to be fairly trivial. Excluding the dock itself, which isn't anywhere near as expensive to produce as they charge, we're talking a single IC from what I can tell. You can buy that exact IC as an aftermarket single item for Switch repairs for like..... $4AU... I'd imagine Nintendo pays far less....

I guess technically doing this allows them to use X1 SoCs that are slightly defective. When you're making 10s of millions of consoles you'd have some number of SoCs that were perfectly functional except for faulty USB Type C/Display Port. Or more likely they're far from golden silicon and they aren't able to run at the full docked clock speed. But still.... for the vast majority of those consoles we're talking a fairly cheap component short of being able to dock....

I'm sure 10, 20 years from now some future equivalent of Macho Nacho will be making videos showing how to mod the Lite to run docked. Alongside presumably numerous other improvements
