@AlexOlney I've always played handheld on the train. Is the kickstand actually stable enough?

@chardir I use the HORI stand for that little bit of extra height and stability until Nintendo can update the software to make it more stable.

I never thought I'd use it but I used it for the first time this weekend along with the Hori stand so I could try Arms motion controls on the go and it was fantastic! I think Handheld still dominates my non-TV play, but tabletop is definitely a winner on the rare occasion when there's a table!

Handheld with a Hori stand is a whole new level of stability. Still find the kick stand to be a little wibbly-wobbly.

I just leave it in the case, that seems to work well enough for me!

I bought this stand. It was a little cheaper than the Hori one at the time, but, more importantly, it allows for a huge range of viewing angles, is nice and solid thanks to its metallic build, and it folds up so that you can easily put it into your pocket when the occasion arises.

Remember when CNet did that review on the switch and they "over exaggerated" on the kick stand being wobbly ?

Everyone said they were just haters and the kickstand was gonna be fine

Now everyone seems to agree with cnet

@ValhallaOutcast CNet's video was stupid. Of course the device is going to fall over if you push on it.

My problem with the kickstand isn't a lack of stability, but with the viewing angle.

@ValhallaOutcast I don't think anyone agrees with CNET. Purposefully pushing something over isn't a valid way to test the kickstand.

Ok everyone is not everyone

Many people commented that video was bogus(pre launch)

(Post launch)Many unboxing videos show people say the kick stand feels cheap

@ValhallaOutcast I think the kickstand is just fine for what it's meant to do. If you're just playing an impromptu game of Snipperclips or a couple of cups in MK, and you have a table, the stand works. And you have to remember that Nintendo intentionally made it to snap off if you jammed it hard, so that people wouldn't break the thing by jamming it into a dock with the stand open. Of course, if you mean to use tabletop frequently on trains or at the office, a dedicated stand is going to provide more stability, just like a dedicated hard case will provide more protection than a woollen sock - but a woollen sock still gives you some protection! (Just the example that popped into my head - there was a Kotaku staffer, I think, that used a big hand-knit sock to protect his Switch at release.)

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

@ValhallaOutcast The video was bogus. It's true that the kickstand feels flimsy, and doesn't support it well while pressing the power and volume buttons, but that doesn't give any credibility at all to CNET. They put out a poorly-made video of someone knocking it over on purpose, even though theres no reason to use the kickstand with the joy-cons on, and no reason to wave the joy-cons that close to the Switch. They did so for shameless views and a controversy in their comment section, knowing fully well that they were exaggerating the problem, and people rightly compared them to a silly infomercial. That all still stands (even though the Switch didn't, badum tsh) despite any justifiable kickstand concerns. Having those concerns doesn't make people agree with CNET, and it's downright silly to even bring the video up.

Ok I take it back, taple top mode is awesome when playing 2 player

Playing games like MK8, Street Fighter and NBA Playgrounds while being out with a buddy is so much fun

whilst my least used method I love it on trains and planes.

Although a kickstand was necessary after a sudden acceleration caused it to tilt over. Got the Hori one; a bit bigger than I expected for carrying in the case but I like the nubs to hold the Switch in place.

I'm yet to have any issues with the kickstand at all. My Switch hasn't at any point fallen over while using it in that mode for local multiplayer. If I was to list Switch design negatives? The kickstand wouldn't appear on that list. They exaggerated it for clickbait, the kickstand is fine, I do not agree with them.

All the time. If I'm not docked I play in tabletop with detached Joycon. Kickstand works fine. It's a tad flimsy but sturdy enough to work so, no complaints.

Only time I use handheld is single player Ultra Street Fighter II. The Joycons need to be attached so I can grip with one hand while pressing on Dpad. Separated it's too hard to do. And ironically the Joycon Dpad works better than Pro Controller. But they need to be attached or in the grip

I use this stand for tabletop charging but usually just stick to the kickstand otherwise
